Thoughts on the name Amira?

We are an Indian family living in the US. We love Amira (pronounced as “Ameera”) — short, sweet nicknames (Mia, Millie), means “princess.” It’ll pair with a long, traditional South Indian lastname.

Our one hesitation: it’s not a traditional name from our heritage, and the grandparents would prefer something more rooted.

Questions:

How do Americans pronounce Amira on first read? Any mix-ups in school, work, or over the phone?

Any Amiras here — what assumptions do people make about your background before meeting you? Ever faced discrimination or awkward moments because of the name?

Overall vibe: Amira with a long Indian lastname?
