About a year ago I created a private Discord server just as an experiment. Nothing serious at first, I just wanted to see what I could build.

Right now it brings in around 5k per month consistently.

It started as a small community, but over time I built out a proper structure and automated a lot of the backend. I made custom bots for role management and invite tracking, and set up an external payment system that handles subscriptions and assigns access automatically inside the server.

The setup is now all automated:

Invite-based growth where members bring others in

VIP access for paying users

Locked private channels for premium members

Subscription system connected through an external site

No ads, no influencers, no paid traffic.

Most of the growth now comes from members inviting others, and everything else is handled through automation

The main thing I learned is that most people overcomplicate starting something like this. You don’t need a perfect system to begin, you just need something functional that you can improve over time.
