Butterflies and Transience

"Butterflies and Transience" series. Felt, porcelain, cunning cow horn, antique glass eye. 25 cm.

The chance to observe a butterfly in detail is like the chance to understand which day of your life is the best. You can guess, but something always eludes you. But there is a secret method of ancient magicians, equally suitable for observing both butterflies and days: to call this very thing, fleeting past, the most beautiful.

I used to make brooches like these and called them "Fiery Palms." They were bought several times by lovers, as a pair of jewelry, and even for weddings.
But now I'm preparing for a large exhibition and decided to make an art version of this work. I doubled the size. Now they're hardly wearable as a brooch, but they're definitely worthy of being cherished like a baby.
I called this version of the work "Staring Game." Did you play this as a child? We thought it was a Native American game.

Every time I look at them, I have different feelings. Sometimes I think they're secretive, sometimes they're outraged by what's happening in the world, sometimes they're crying out for help. What do you think?
Are there stones with holes in your area? Are they considered magical? And what do you call them? We call them "chicken gods."

Lately, I've been getting a lot of comments saying my works aren't real, but AI-generated. I don't know what to make of it. The previous video with this couple was from the forest, but even there they said it was AI. The only thing left to do is go to offline exhibitions, see with your eyes, touch with your hands.

This work is for an exhibition at the Imperfecta gallery in Portland.

Come!

Felt, mirror, glass. 80 cm.
