The Former Cayman Islander

The Former Cayman Islander

I’ve been curious about this for many years, so I thought I’d ask here. The first hotel I ever stayed in was the Cayman Islander, which closed in 1996 and I think ceased operating entirely after Ivan.

It’s since been shut down for more than 20 years. It seems like a very valuable valuable parcel of real estate, on West Bay Road along 7 Mile Beach. Yet it’s been vacant for decades, while regularly advertised as on the market.

Anyone know what’s going on? Why hasn’t it been sold?

Just took a pizza-making class and tried out my first two sets of dough. These are 62% hydration with basic flour, stored in the fridge for about 36 hours. Then topped with mushrooms, onions, poblano peppers, and basil.

They tasted pretty good to me, but I’m very new at this, so welcome any input! I’m a terrible cook normally but pizza is my favorite food, so I’m motivated.
