At what age does sex start to be seen as a crucial part of a relationship

Okay so to be brief the other day i was arguing with a few guys in my class we are 15/16 and we started to discuss sex topics, and they started to say that we are already “old enough” to have sex. I said i wouldnt have sex now and neither would i in a year, so they came to the point that if at this age you dont have sex after dating a person for more than 8 months then it means you dont trust them enough and you shouldnt have a relationship (all this guys are virgins and some of them havent even had their first kiss). So is it really like that? I feel like its not and that at this age it shouldnt be something expected.
