Hello all. I’m 23 years old and I’ve been a shift lead for about 5 years. I was hired as a DH, and took the lead role as we were short and I decided more money sounded pretty good. As time goes on, I realize that my social anxiety is way more severe than I previously thought, and that I hate this role, but now I rely on this money to.. yknow.. live. I live in an area where all the entry level jobs don’t pay as much as Walgreens does, and to top it all off I’m a college student and live an hour away from any family, and moving in with them is not an option. Most of my employees are very respectful, but like every store, we have a few that don’t like to listen to instructions. I have a hard time getting everyone back on track because i don’t like confrontation with employees. Customers? No problem. But I never know what to do with the employees. I’m either too mean or not mean enough, so they walk all over me or hate me. Not that I care, I’m not here to make friends, I just personally want to come in and do what I need to do and leave. I wish that yelling at other people wasn’t part of the “job description” lol. What can I do to improve as a leader, in and out of work?
EDIT: I have never, and will never yell at any of the employees I work with. Most of my problems are actually because I’m too “soft spoken,” I have even personally been yelled at by the other leads at my store, and don’t understand why that’s the approach they take sometimes. I just want to know how I can improve my own management skills while staying relatively calm and respectful, as I just have problems with initial confrontations.
I have medium density hair and I’ve been trying to grow it out for the past 3 years. I’ve noticed that the longer it gets, the more it wants to tangle and split. I swear I cut off more than what grows. I don’t like to tie my hair up as most styles fall out making me have to redo it, and the tugging is unbearable. Are there any products such as shampoo/conditioner or leave ins that can help with this problem?
