Wards and protective rites in antiquity?

Hey, I did a quick search but didn't really come up with what I'm looking for. Is anyone here aware of ancient practices for protection outside of say deipnon offerings? What measures would practitioners take if they felt the need to ward themselves from misfortune and/or evil ?

Thyrsos love

What's up my fellow maenads and satyrs and Dionysians galore?

I've been in a bit of a Bacchic frenzy this morning and just added the bow to my thyrsos, because as I dance around the house with it it just seemed to need a lil more ✨ sparkle ✨ and I just recently got this purple fabric. Io Evohe!

If you have a thyrsos, I'd love to see it!

Children's gothic mystery from 70s?

This may have been like one of the first "novels" I ever read, in elementary school. It was the early 90s but I think the book may have been from the 70s. Not sure.

It took place at a girls boarding school, there may have been something about a rose motif in stone under a tree*( but that may also be misremembered from something else 😬); the male lead/love interest was named Gaston, and either he or a female student died out of a window or under a window. Spooky and delightful to elementary school me. I googled and it gave me Down a Dark Hall by Lois Duncan which sounds like a fun read but it doesn't seem to be the right book.

If anyone can help me find this book I read about three decades ago I will be eternally grateful 🥹🙏🏻🖤
