Rehoming my father’s cat

Hi everyone! I’m here visiting my elderly father who was just placed in a care home.

He has a very sweet, friendly tortoiseshell cat (female) who urgently needs a home. I’m taking care of her the next few days, but unfortunately I’m flying out on Tuesday night and there will be no one to care for her afterwards.

I’ve tried contacting several shelters but they’re either full or not scheduling intake appointments until January.

does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone interested in this sweet baby? Please comment or DM me.

edit: I’m willing to purchase food/litter & box/supplies to get you started. I don’t think she has received regular vet care due to my father’s condition. Unsure of age.

Resources for someone new to elder care

Hi all. I’m faced with a situation where I need to learn about the rules, laws, pitfalls, etc. of elder care fairly quickly.

I learned today that my estranged father is facing severe cognitive decline. Both long-term and short-term memory are failing and apparently he has missed some of his medical appointments. I don’t believe there is a POA established. I will contact one of the social workers tomorrow and plan to consult with several elder law attorneys. He lives very far away from me so I really need to make the best use of this time before taking any action or (potentially) traveling to him.

Are there any resources, FAQs, “Elder Care for Dummies” that you have found helpful? Is it worth consulting an attorney? If you could go back in time, would you do anything differently?

I appreciate any advice- I’m really trying to juggle so much and have no idea where to start.
