Bottle feeding sleepiness?

Bottle feeding sleepiness?

Our little guy was born at 28+2 and is now 40+5 corrected. He started bottle feeding about 2 weeks ago but is struggling due to significant sleepiness, taking ~30% of bottle before tiring, or sometimes not waking up at all.

He’s otherwise healthy. When he is eating, he does a good job but needs help with pacing. Maintains his oxygen saturation well with intermittent tachypnea. We tried putting him back on oxygen support to see if that helped, but it didn’t make a difference.

Some nurses/doctors seem as confused as we are, others tell us that “it just clicks” eventually. We’re trying to stay hopeful, but after almost 100 days here, we’re so ready to bring him home.

Has anyone else had a very sleepy baby who struggled with feeding, even around or after their due date. Did it eventually click?

We’ve discussed a g-tube with doctors too, so also looking for any positive experiences there.

Sleepy bottle feeder after due date - looking for advice/similar experiences!

Looking for advice/experiences: very sleepy feeder after due date… and G-tube stories if it came to that

Our little guy was born at 28+2 and is now 40+5 corrected. He finally weaned to high flow about 2 weeks so we started bottle feeding. Now he’s off respiratory support altogether and doing well. No ABD events in several weeks now.

Our current struggle is sleepiness. He’s taking only ~30% of bottle before tiring (or hitting the 30min limit), /and sometimes not waking up at all.

He maintains his oxygen saturations well while eating. He does have intermittent tachypnea (on and off oxygen) but we’ve had no aspiration scares. If he has reflux, it’s thought to be mild.

Everyone keeps telling us that “it just clicks,” and we’re trying to stay hopeful. But we’re so ready to bring him home.

I’m hoping to hear from parents who had:
- A very sleepy baby who struggled with feeding, even around or after their due date. Did it eventually click?
- baby who needed a G-tube. Looking back, are you glad you went that route? Did it help you finally get home sooner?

I know every baby is different, but I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences!

28-weeker starting oral feeds at 37 wks corrected - what to expect?

Baby was born at 28 wks and is now 9 wks old. He transitioned from CPAP 5 to high-flow yesterday and has been doing great so far. The plan is to start working on oral feeds Monday, beginning with dry breastfeeding.

I know every baby is different, but I’d love to hear others experiences. How old was your baby when they started oral feeds? How long did it take for breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding to click? Was progress gradual or did it happen all at once? Any setbacks along the way?

After spending so long focused on respiratory milestones, it feels like we’re entering a whole new phase. I’d love to hear what your feeding journey looked like and anything you wish you’d known going into it

Ty in advance!

What intersection is this?

Not sure if this allowed since I actually don’t know the answer but hoping someone can help me recreate this photo of my mom
