Izorline XXX vs Trout SOS

I'm very familiar with the Trout SOS "2lb" line and have no problems with it. I've been wanting to try out Izorline XXX smoke 2lb, but curious how they compare and want to hear from anyone who has experience with both.

More Dangly Tail Adventures

I've already made the switch to exclusively use i-fish BG-1 jigs, and now I'm on the way to basically only using the Dangly Tail soft plastic. Not only was it designed to be used with these jigheads, it's just yielding amazing results. The black/gold (now sold out) has been awesome. Catching all the bluegill and sunfish of every size, some smaller but super fun largemouth, and even a couple surprise catfish.

These pictures are from today, and caught these in under an hour after a quick decision to hit the local pond. It was a hot day around 2pm, I wasn't expecting much but I don't think I've caught this many in such rapid succession. No monsters this time, but every fish is fun no matter what.

As usual, using the Handing M1 Trout 6'6" ultralight rod, Daiwa 23 Legalis LT2000S-P reel, and have gone back to running straight copolymer, Trout SOS in .16mm this time but going to try Izorline XXX soon I think.

Dangly Tail catches, and forgetting net

Productive morning with the black i-fish Dangly Tail. Also using Varivas Super Trout Advance 3lb for the first time.

I said I wanted to catch bass on the Dangly, and was successful! Had a couple come jump off when feeling in. The second on pictured broke off when I landed it. If I hadn't forgotten my net...

Then I got into a 10 minute fight with a catfish AGAIN. I guess these things like the Dangly Tail too...I was careful and had it to the bank, and asked a kid nearby to help grab it and as soon as he touches it, SNAP and off it goes....

This Varivas 3lb line is great, high quality and casts beautifully. But it definitely stretches more than I like. I could have avoided the break offs with using my net, but it was a little disappointing for an under 1 pound bass to break off and I couldn't tell how big the catfish was, solid 14" it looked like, and a heart pounding fight but losing it to a break off right when it was within reach was the worst.

First Catfish, i-fish Dangly Tail

2 pounder (at least) catfish on the i-fish black Dangly Tail and 0.6 gram #12 jighead. FUN fight, first catfish ever, was very unexpected ๐Ÿ˜‚.

"That's not a bass, is it a turtle? Carp?" The hook broke off the jig after I removed it. Had a bunch of good bites on the dangly, but didn't catch anything else, so switched to the Mule 1/80 oz jighead with 1.2" Mule Minnow and caught a bunch of 'gills and 'sunnies.

6'6" Handing M1 Trout ultralight, Daiwa 23 Legalis LT2000S-P, Ray Fishing 5lb braid, Trout SOS .16mm "2lb" leader.

1/200 oz Mini Trout Magnets are AMAZING

Decided to give these a go after watching tons of sunfish and bluegill swimming around, most of which paid no attention to my usual baits. After switching to these, it was back to back casts and I couldn't keep count ๐Ÿ˜‚ took a couple pictures but it was tons of fun. If you're ever skunked, I recommend having the Mini Trout Magnet kit handy. They were all dinks but nobody else was catching anything.

With a 6'6" Handing M1 Trout ultralight rod, Ray Fishing 5lb braid to 2lb copolymer leader, I think I could sling these weightless little things about 10-15 feet. Which was plenty of distance for the scenario. A float would help add a little bit but these fall so slowly that I didn't bother.

Varivas Super Trout Advance vs Area Trout SVG

I've been running braid to leader for a while now and found that I really like the Ray Fishing 5lb and use the Leland's Lures Trout SOS "2lb" for a leader. But I've been want to simplify things and run a straight line without worrying about leaders.

I've been looking at Varivas products for a long time but have yet to purchase anything. I'm looking for reviews from those who have used these two specific lines.

https://www.varivas.fishing/product/area-svg-nylon/

https://www.varivas.fishing/product/super-trout-advance-2/

I use a 6'6" Handing M1 Trout rod, Daiwa 23 Legalis LT2000S-P reel, and i-fish BG-1 jig heads, typically 1g and 1.25g, with smaller soft plastics.

The (only) catch of the day

I wanted to get out earlier before the water temp got too warm and everything got lazy, but only had a couple nibbles. Until I was about to leave, "one last cast" and got a nice surprise. Super fun fight. I should start measuring and weighing fish lol. This was 14-16", not a small guy at all. This pond gets stocked with rainbows and brooks a few times per season, the last time was May 1st so I wasn't really expecting a survivor.

Rod: Handing M1 Trout 6'6" ultralight

Reel: Daiwa 23 Legalis LT2000S-P

Lure: i-fish Tackle BG-1 1.25 gram #10 hook jig head with Z-Man Micro Finesse Wormz in Yoga Pants (black)

Line: Ray Fishing 5lb braid to Trout SOS .16mm copolymer leader (also known as "2lb" but breaks at 4+lb)

Today's catches

After my previous post about chasing bass on ultralight, I had some time to hit the pond.

The first tiny sunfish was caught on a Z-Man Baby Ballerz in Bumblebee, which was about the same size as the dang fish. Don't know how it fit that entire thing in there.

Switched to a Mule Donkey Tail Jr in Dakota Sunrise and caught the bass shortly after! Then a smaller bluegill that flopped off after I was unhooking it. Had another really good bite and fight started on what felt like a bass but it came off ๐Ÿ™

Then caught the other pictured bluegill on a Z-Man Micro Wormz in Coppertreuse, after switching to that when the bite died off with the Donkey Tail.

A guy came up asking what I was using because he noticed I was the only one catching anything ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ ultralight for the win once again.

Gear used is a Handing M1 Trout 6'6", Daiwa 23 Legalis LT-2000S-P reel, Ray Fishing 5lb braid, Leland's Lures Trout SOS .16mm ("2lb" but it's really 4lb) as the leader. All plastics used with i-fish Tackle BG-1 1.25 gram #10 hook jig head.

Targeting LM Bass on UL?

I've always heard the local pressured pond has bass but never seen anyone catching any. But thanks to ultralight gear and a finnese approach, I've started to reel a few in. Small ones, but still tons of fun to catch.

All of these were caught on an i-fish BG-1 1.25 gram #10 hook jighead with Z-Man Micro Wormz. I have other soft plastic profiles and heavier jigs with bigger hooks to use.

I am curious what other people are finding successful when ultralight fishing for LM bass, I'd like to see if I can bring in some bigger ones.

u/xtian_c โ€” 2 months ago

Sharing some photos showing off a few of the tons of fish this jighead and soft plastic combo has been catching from the highly pressured local pond. Nearly everyone else I see there are left skunked, but finnese fishing wins again!

I first tried it after the first time they stocked it with trout this season and immediately was reeling them in. Then I found that it catches everything!

Rainbow and brook trout, small mouth bass, bluegill, sunfish of all sizes have been slurping these up.

The i-fish Tackle jig heads, mainly the 1.25 gram #10 hook. Paired with Z-Man Micro Finesse Wormz. The two colors that have been crushing are Yoga Pants (black) and Coppertreuse. I-fish Tackle suggested trimming the top section off these, which I found helpful as well.

It's been hard using anything else! I always end up going back to these Wormz. The jigs hold up very well, the paint will start to chip off but the hooks stay super strong and sharp. Haven't bent one yet.

My setup is a Handing M1 Trout 6'5" ultralight, JDM Daiwa 23 Legalis LT2000S-P reel, Ray Fishing 5lb braid, and for a leader either .16mm or .20mm Trout SOS copolymer.
