Hi all,
First off, let me just say thank you to everyone who has helped me navigate the absolute shit show that everyone has to go through to deal with SAVE forbearance and loan service providers doing NOTHING to help us.
-------
I was in repayment for my federal student loans under SAVE, and so my loans went into administrative forbearance between 6/2024 and 5/2026 due to the SAVE plan being in legal limbo until recent months.
After MONTHS of trying to get switched to a new plan by Mohela, and filing a formal complaint last month, I finally got an email this morning that I'm being switched to the income-driven repayment or ICR plan.
Can someone help explain to me what options I have when it comes to buyback (for PSLF) to pay for the months I was in forbearance? I have had qualifying employment the entire period.
I'm currently at 85/120 repayments for both loans remaining, and to my understanding, if I had been able to make payments the last 2 years, I'd be at ~108/109 payments, and so, could apply for buyback in/around May 2027 when I would've hit 120 payments. Is this correct?
Also, will the buy back based on the current monthly repayment amount, or would it be based on what I would have payed at the time under the SAVE plan? Or something else?
Also, is there any specific documentation I should be saving to show I was under this administrative forbearance for the past 2 years? So that I can prove my case/can do buyback when May 2027 comes around...
Thanks for all the assistance!
