Temped to photoshop the boys on these, but if someone beats me to it that’d be appreciated.

Centricide Reunion
There’s burning lights
across the water,
and all I do, is sit and stare.
And though they’re close,
I’m drifting farther.
Was I ever really here?
The city didn’t pick a soundtrack,
so I’ll just hum to myself, instead.
The night’s a’bright
with greens and yellows,
and those final sparks
are deep purples, and reds.
And I still sit there, by the water,
staring at a show I didn’t know I could attend.
And as the sky begins to darken, again,
I wish I’d came here with a friend.
Love, would you spook at all that banging?
Would you have stared up with me, in awe?
There was a time I knew I knew you,
now I’m here, alone, at start of fall.
It’s a cold night in September,
and very soon, it’s colder still.
And as I’m frozen by the water,
by my thoughts, and not the chill.
I try to conjure up your laughter
from the vaults behind my eyes,
I sit and think, what were you thinking?
When you didn’t say goodbye.
Do I still have a right to miss you?
Would you say that’s overstepped?
I think this wouldn’t be an issue
if in the past two nights, I had slept.
But the people in our lives, I figure,
are like those fireworks in the sky.
For a moment, glowing wonder,
and the next whisping ash that fly-
no crash, into the water,
or the hard dirt down below.
So shall we next pass as strangers?
Or am I someone you still know?
And my friend, how long is forever?
I often confuse the sparkling soot,
as signs of snow.
I think if we both make it past November,
we’ll share a season, again.
A whole winter in an evening,
a whole other year to just pretend.
If we never again share a moment,
shall we purge these memories?
Do you wish I was there with you
the nights you wander through the trees.
You’ll take the forest
and leave me the rivers,
you’ll start fires
while I hold my head underwater
and we’ll both forget to breath
and we’ll both scream to no one
and we’ll both wish for stars,
the kind that remind us
the sky isn’t that empty
that we aren’t that empty
that we are still somebody, separate
Whole
Even now.
But the nights are mostly void
more often than not
in the places we’ve planted ourselves.
I can still close my eyes and carve the way
your smile etches across your face
when it’s real, when it’s truly yours,
without staring at photographs
and willing them to speak.
And I’m still sitting by the pitch dark water,
under an even blacker sky.
I sit and think, what were you thinking?
When you didn’t say goodbye.
((Testing to see if the stance that any and all art is welcome on the sub is still the case. First full poem I’ve written in a few months, composed tonight over the course of about 20 mins during a fireworks show for Labor Day happening in a local park I frequent that I wasn’t aware was going to happen. Genuinely hoping this resonates with a few people, Lumie out!!))

Extensively researched timeline of How We Got Here™️
The original title (and the one still on the Podcasts and Spotify Apps) is “Nobody is Allowed to Commit War Crimes but Me and My Boy!”
Covers the formation of Israel via Britain, the almost never mentioned USSR involvement and several proxy wars, Egypt nationalizing the Sioux Canal, and all encroachments by Israel onto Palestinian, Egyptian and Lebanese land and what caused them up to the time of recording (late 2023).
Solid 2 hour crash course if you aren’t that informed, or are curious about, the history of the Palestine v Israel conflict as well as what role the American government has played in such for the past several decades.

Currently sick and didn’t really get out of bed until like 3pm in any meaningful way besides to take some meds in the morning, didn’t eat anything until a little after 4:30… made loaded toast to get through some reduced cal cream cheese and pack cals in.
Anyway, was on the phone with my mother after she got off work and we discussed what we’d ate that day. I sent her this pic and a picture of an egg white bowl I also had (which she also called disgusting because she doesn’t like egg whites) and she nitpicked the hell out of it (fully knowing my history with food and my feelings on my body).
Noteable highlights:
>>”What are the blackberry looking things?”
>> “…you mean the blackberries?”
>>”Oh.”
>>”Why’s it covered in brown bugs?”
>>”Do you mean the roasted peanuts?”
>>”Is THAT what those ARE?”
>>”I could NEVER put COTTAGE CHEESE on my TOAST”
>>”It’s not? That’s cream cheese.”
>>”Well I don’t like dairy and that would still mess up my stomach.”
>>”I’m not allowed to have cream cheese because of how it would affect you? And since when can’t you have cream cheese? You put it on your bagels and toast all the time??”
>>”Well it just looks gross and I don’t know how you could even eat that.”
Anyway, recipe: two slices sourdough, a comical amount of whipped cream cheese (like a little under half a cup worth, this can be greatly reduced or subbed for a protein source like greek yogurt, I just had to finish the cream cheese before it went back and it seemed a good a use as any), a tbsp of drizzled honey (half per slice), half an ounce of roasted honey peanuts spread between both slices, 13 blueberries (10cal) and 7 blackberries (15cal). Blueberry slice was vastly superior but I really need to get through two pints of blackberries by like next Wednesday at the absolute latest. Also could definitely yeet the cals way down with lower cal bread or rice cakes. Mostly was challenging myself while also trying to make food that felt safe and would help me get over this jank cold.
