Not certain this is the right place to ask, and disclaimer, this is going off memories from a decade ago so I don't remember all the details exactly and may be misremembering some- when I was a teenager my dad died of a heart attack. He also had an unrelated mildly infected (what bacteria was unknown) scrape on his arm at the time he died.
My sibling and I hugged his body, which was fully prepped and embalmed wearing a suit jacket, around 5 days after death right before his funeral. Around a week later, we both developed MRSA infections, I in my armpit and my sibling on their torso.
My family has always claimed his body gave us it by hugging/touching him, but I've heard that dead bodies, especially embalmed ones that have been dead for a number of days, actually aren't dangerous and won't get you sick. Does that only apply to things like COVID, or did he actually potentially give us MRSA?
Thanks!
