SF85p and debts

Hello!

I work at a place that requires us to have a public trust clearance. I’ve had multiple background investigations across several agencies without any issues, but my last was about 5 years ago and during that in between time I had a lot of things pop up. Not to get into too much detail, but we had a bunch of medical things come up including multiple miscarriages and related complications, death in the family, and my husband lost his job which took more than half a year to replace. I filled out the forms and noted that I had corrected several issues through payment plans and trial modification on our mortgage. I also noted I had a few outstanding items due to me having trouble locating who owned debts/not getting responses from companies when I’d reached out.

I ended up getting an LOI asking me to provide documentation on items completed/being paid on, and noted that I failed to mention some items they highlighted. I looked and out of everything they highlighted, I missed two. One I just overlooked because it was small, and another I believe was added in between the time I pulled my report and when they pulled theirs.

I’m due to return the LOI and I’ve broken down each item by category, included a general explanation for what happened during that time period, and also have a section for the unresolved areas/ones they thought were unaddressed but I did list and seem to be disconnected because the names didn’t match 100%. I have attachments labeled for each one showing payment plans for each of these or receipts showing they’re paid off between when I submitted my application a few weeks ago and today (to clarify, I didn’t wait until the app came up - I’ve been paying on multiples of these but I was trying to knock them out instead of signing up everything all at once to slowly knock them out).

All of my other investigations were so straightforward that I’m nervous. I can absolutely understand why they’d want proof or have questions - I just feel really apprehensive because my last one was just a phone call and then I was done. Does it seem likely I’ve done enough to cover things or is the damage done and this is just a formality to deny it? I have no other issues, not even a traffic ticket.

Indiana - paid off condo threatened with foreclosure

Hello!

My step MIL passed away last July, and an unsupervised estate was filed in August. The executor was her brother, and he hired an attorney to handle the estate. The heirs listed were her daughter, her granddaughter, my husband, and his brother (she had been in process of updating her information after selling the house and buying a condo to adjust the distributions to include my son and my nieces but it never was finished so that was where it landed).

The estate left my step SIL the full distribution from an investment she had, which was between $100k and $150k, and then the remaining breakdown was to be handled:
-SIL 70% of remaining assets
- granddaughter 20% of remaining assets
- 5% each to my husband and his brother of remaining assets (they lost their father, her husband, a few years ago and he didn’t leave them anything other than some heirlooms so it was very kind of her to include them)

We basically never heard from the executor about what was happening unless I pinged him. He kept saying it would be finalized “soon”, at one point telling me that he expected December. That actually culminated in May.

She had some money in her accounts, but the biggest asset was the condo which she paid off entirely after selling her home. She purchased it May ‘25 for roughly $300k and held it for the two months prior to passing. My SIL decided she wanted to keep the condo instead of selling and moving, again, as she had recently moved in with her mom when she first got sick. We all totally supported her so the plan was for her to pay the 30% in distributions to the remaining heirs. She did, and the condo was transferred to her name this May.

The complicated and very confusing part to me is that she recently was notified that the HOA is intending to foreclose on the condo due to unpaid dues. She tried to negotiate with them (I don’t know what amount they’re demanding) but she said they told her not to bother contacting them again. I checked with the local Recorder’s office and evidently they filed a lien back in November last year for unpaid dues, and the notices were all sent to the executor. She contacted the executor (her uncle) and he just got sassy with her about of course needing to pay to live somewhere, but he had told her everything was handled during the estate process and clearly wouldn’t have paid $100k for a home that was going to be foreclosed on. She also was not notified of a lien being on the property prior to it being put in her name. She contacted the attorney’s office and they said that the attorney who handled the case has left and the estate is done so they won’t help either (though this also confuses me as I looked at the online docket and the case is still in a pending status and the attorney didn’t file to remove themself from the case). Other than getting a copy of the lien, which I provided her, I’m extremely confused how to help her. She said she can’t afford an attorney at this point and can’t pay whatever inflated dues they’re demanding (the lien said court costs plus attorney fees, which I can see they were wracking up already due to how high the lien was when it was filed). No formal mortgage foreclose has been filed with the court yet, so I’m hoping she can stop whatever is happening. I’m not shocked I guess that the dues accrued since every time I asked what was happening she couldn’t tell me other than the attorney was handling it, but the firm charged so little to do the estate that I’m thinking he either didn’t provide those noticed to the firm so they were unaware or they told him to pay it and he didn’t. They also never filed a claim on the estate itself, though they knew he was the executor of the estate so they were aware of its existence.

Any ideas where to start?

Hello!

I’m confused about a situation I have ongoing at work. I’m 13.5 weeks pregnant right now and have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss. I’m high risk and have a history of developing later term pregnancy complications (developed pre-eclampsia with my first and was admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks before inducing about a month early). I’ve had multiple appointments for scans already, will meet with MFM which is a long drive from where I live, and have already been told to expect increased monitoring as my pregnancy progresses (they’ve mentioned so far coming in daily once I reach a certain point for NSTs and potentially inducing at 34 weeks this time if I start to show signs of pre-eclampsia again).

I WFH and my company and has an unlimited PTO policy. I notified my manager of my pregnancy a couple of weeks ago after my last ultrasound came back healthy and he told me to just note things on the calendar. However, I remembered last year HR said I needed to do some additional things so I emailed them letting them know about my appointments coming up and that I’ll need to meet with MFM and asked if I could just put things on my calendar. They said no and asked for a meeting. The meeting was really supportive and told me they’ll handle the bulk of communication with my manager about my pregnancy and hopefully eventual maternity leave on my behalf, and that I need to have a bunch of forms filled out within 2 weeks for them to ensure they’re complying fully with the PWFA. I was surprised but overall left the meeting feeling a lot better because they seem to have a strong handle on maternity leave in general.

Fast forward to later that day and I’m being told by my manager that another team wants me to join them and I’ll be getting a call to talk about it. Essentially we got a big contract with the government and we can’t get paid until a person is in the role so that team wants me to accept and move asap. I don’t want this role at all, and told that group I’m pregnant since they didn’t know, and that I would refuse travel for many reasons including my blood clotting risk (I currently have no travel in my role, my husband commutes, and we have a kid that I take to pre-k and will need to drive to kindergarten so that also wouldn’t fit our lifestyle). They told me they wouldn’t make me travel but I’ve worked with this client before and they were awful, I’ve had previous issues being told this and then being pressured to do so, and I have a bad working relationship already with the director who would be over this role and don’t feel comfortable working for him either. I talked to my manager and his boss (based on his recommendation) to find out if this is just an opportunity or if it’s a situation where I don’t have a job if I don’t take the role, and during those conversations mentioned I had talked with HR and have documents I need to return soon.

They both got really weird and said they weren’t sure why I notified HR. I told them HR said it was a requirement for them to make sure they were complying with various pregnancy related laws and unlimited PTO can’t be used as a blanket to cover everything. It almost felt like they thought I was using it avoid this other role, but I’d already noticed HR earlier in the week and met with them before I ever found out about this role so that doesn’t make any sense. I’m not on any performance reviews nor have had any negative feedback and they’re trying to push me into what would be considered a promotion of sorts, so it’s not like I’ve done anything wrong aside from now telling them I don’t want the job. The only thing I was told was there has no direction to eliminate my current role, but they’re worried sales hasn’t been selling contracts for my specific tasks and that the company could decide I’m redundant later.

Is this normal for managers to be upset I notified HR? We didn’t have any maternity leave policies or anything in place really at all when I had my first, but my manager then had been supportive of whatever I needed and didn’t care who I told. I left with a weird feeling I can’t quite place, but I also know this other role situation is super stressful to me and I’m trying to keep each one sorted out.
