The theatre I watched it in had the volume cranked up really high, so every single loud sound (especially Nikki screaming) was extremely frightening, so much so that I was literally dreading the next time she would scream.

And the screen was also darker than usual, so in many of the scenes including especially bedroom one, it was much harder to make Nikki out and the whole thing was just so much creepier.
