I Shot Urban Unicycling World Championships with Fujis
I typically don’t do much sports photography but every two years I attend UNICON and volunteer as a photographer for the urban disciplines (trials, flatland, street).
These images were taken on Fujifilm X-T5, X-T3 and X100vi. My go-to lenses are 18mm f1.4, 56mm f1.2, 80mm f2.8 and 16-50mm f2.8-4.8. I occasionally break out the 55-200mm f3.5-4.8, 10-24mm f4 and on really rare occasions I use my old Lensbaby Muse on a Canon->Fuji mount adapter (those are the two shots with the tilt-shift-like blur effect and the one fisheye shot).
All images shot in RAW and edited in Adobe Lightroom.
I love Fuji’s Provia & Velvia color profiles and most importantly, the small form factor of the camera bodies and lenses. I carry all that gear in a medium-sized sling bag and laugh at the Canon/Nikon guys slugging around giant backpacks holding half the lens options I’ve got.
If I had a complaint, it’s the autofocus (yep, we hear it all the time). However, after shooting Fuji for 7 years, I’ve found ways to work around that drawback and still get decent shots in challenging, fast moving situations.
I hope you enjoy these images and are impressed by these athletes on one wheel!
