Slowpitch and golf

Hey guys

So, I’m sure like many of you, I also like to golf. However, while I’ve only been playing Slowpitch for about 3 years, I’ve been golfing for over 30. Interestingly, one swing does not seem to have much impact on the other for me, but that’s not the point of this right now.

The point is, as a guy who’s 5’10 and 160, I can hit my driver around 280 on a good day, but I’m lucky to hit anything past an outfielder in softball. People talk about “compression” in golf and “the load” in softball, and I think I can feel the compression and weight transfer really well in golf, but I really can’t get the coordination right in softball to get any power. Has anyone whos a better golfer than batter figured out any tips for adding power in slowpitch?

Thank you for your help

Oily itchy nose rash - lifelong issue that has gotten worse in the last 2 months

Hey guys

So this is an issue I’ve had since I was a teen (currently mid thirties). I’ve always had a shiny nose and large pores and saw numerous derms who tried things like minocycline and accutane and differin gel and various strips and such and it never really made an impact. What seemed to help the most was that I actually stopped washing my nose most days, and that at least brought the shine down. (Additional context, I noticed that whenever I would travel somewhere humid, my nose would become more red). Through my 20’s, I ultimately just accepted it and didn’t put too much thought into it.

Now, in the last 2 months or so, it seems like my nose is having some kind of reaction to something. You can see that it spreads about an inch outside my nose, and I left my forehead open in the photo because two small scaly spots have formed there that seem to be having the same reaction, and those have never shown up before. My nose has started to itch and burn a little bit as if reacting to something.

I went to a dermatologist on Monday and I clearly went the wrong place - it was very aesthetics driven, and the nurse asked like 2 questions, then proceeded to telephone the wrong info to the dermatologist who made his diagnosis before he ever entered the room and saw me (I heard the convo in the hall outside the room) he gave me tretinoin and doxycycline and ran away.

I then thought I would try a virtual session with Goodrx because it would take too long to get back to another derm, but they only offered the option to speak with a rosacea specialist, who, after looking at three photos decided it’s rosacea and recommended me Metronidazole. While it seems like it could be rosacea, I’m skeptical that no other dermatologist has made that diagnosis before, and I’ve seen probably half a dozen in my life.

At this point, I’m trying the rosacea ointment and doxycycline, but I’m hesitant because my nose gets very red very fast and I think the tretinoin will make it very mad. Does anyone have any ideas what this is and what might bring down the redness and itchiness? It seems to look the best first thing when I wake up in the morning and then get redder and flakier as the day goes on.

Trying to remain relatively anonymous on Reddit so the photo is bad, but I can try to take some other angles if that’s not helpful.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you. It’s hard when the skin condition is smack dab in the middle of your face and you can’t ever hide it.

Prime day deals

Hey everyone

I’m brand new to fishing, and I’ve only been like 3-4 times in my life. At this point I don’t own any gear. Is there anything on sale right now for prime day you would recommend I pick up (that’s actually a good deal) I’ll get it all eventually, I just have to space it out over a few paychecks.

Thank you for the help

Perdomo w/ Gatorade cooler

That guy is so hilarious. I could watch the footage of him chasing Ketel down the 3rd base line after the walk off with the cooler and then MASSIVELY overshooting him and throwing it on someone randomly behind the team on repeat for an hour.

Super high slicing fly balls

Hey guys - I’m relatively new to slow pitch (about 2 years, didn’t play in high school or college) I’ve put in a bunch of time shagging fly balls in bp, but there’s one hit that gets me every time. It’s usually when I’m playing right field, and a right handed batter slices one off the bat. If it’s low and I can keep an eye on it, I can usually track it close enough, but if it’s high and over my head, I lose it every time. I find myself doing 360’s in the outfield trying to track it and sprint backwards then look and see where it is.

Anyone have any tips for their order of operations in this scenario?

Hey guys

So I bought a bat less than 2 weeks ago. It was used from a noteworthy seller in my area (I use the term noteworthy and not reputable). He said it only had 40-50 swings, and it had stamps that say it passed compression at recent tournaments. I looked for cracks and it was fine. I proceed to do some bp with it, maybe 30 swings. Bat feels good.

I play it in a game, get a hit, and drop it, only to hear the loudest craziest rattle I've ever heard. While standing on 1st base, I ask the guys in the dugout if they heard that and they all say "yeah that bat is broken". After a couple of small drops to replicate the sound, its clear something is broken inside the bat.

The seller obviously said "You checked the bat out, its on you", which I guess is just a learning lesson for me. However, at this point, the bat still hits the ball well, and the bat sounds great when I find the barrel, but sounds insane when I drop it. I know its bad to use a cracked bat for risk of the bat exploding, but if the bat is fine externally but rattling inside, is it still ok to use? I'm assuming at a certain point there will be a massive drop-off in performance from the bat and thats the time to retire it.

Thank you for your help. Make sure to do test-drops when buying used bats, lol.
