Question about endowed chairs

I work in non-profit fundraising, but not for a school. When I'm researching potential donors, I frequently come across gifts made to endow chairs (i.e. the Morticia and Gomez Addams Chair in Arachnology at UC Sunnydale).

I've encountered these gifts enough to know that a gift to endow a chair is generally larger than one to endow a professorship. But one thing I've never been sure of - do these endowed chairs fulfill the role of a departmental leadership position, or is it more of an honorary thing? I would also understand if it varied from institution to institution.

EDIT: Many thanks for all the helpful responses!

Rikki Rockett's memoir comes out next month, but in the meantime, does anyone have any info about his uniform in the NBAGT video?

Question about contouring

Hi! I'm pretty inexperienced with guitar modding. I haven't even actually played guitar in many years. But I've had this import G&L Fallout laying around the house. It was abused enough that it wouldn't have been worth it to try to sell it, so I decided that I'd try to make it into something that I like better. And maybe after that, teach myself to play again.

So here's my question. I've been carving out a little contour on the lower horn. The current shape is very comfortable for my hand - it fits nicely. However, I just had the thought that, when I refinish it, it will add additional material to the area I've been cutting away. Would it make sense to go slightly deeper than I think I need to, or will it not make that much of a difference as long as I've got the shape right?

Thanks!

Who are some club-level pop artists who have been killing it live in the past few years?

Hi all, I'm only an occasional visitor to this sub, so I'm hoping this is a reasonable thread to start.

I'm interested in finding out about current pop singers who are kinda relegated to venues with capacities of say, under 2,000. I was talking to a friend recently who really likes pop music, and he was bummed about the costs associated with going to see the Top 40-level artists that he likes (your Taylor Swifts and Beyonces and Gagas).

I also like pop music, and have a somewhat wider knowledge of deep cut artists than he does, but I've never gone out to see that kinda stuff live. Realizing that pop music is such a studio-based art form, my suspicion is that there are some artist who are able to stick the transition from studio to stage better than others. Plus, I've been out of my pop phase for a few years, so I don't know what's up-to-date.

My hope with this thread is to get people to share stories about pop artists they've seen live in small-to-medium sized nightclubs in the past year or two and absolutely had their faces rocked off. Thank you.

The Happy Fits - Everything You Do - Behind the Music - Ep. 2

This Friday at 5 p.m. eastern time - a behind-the-music on Everything You Do.

Holy smokes, I have never followed a band that was THIS giving and engaged with their fanbase. And that's no shade on other bands who play it closer to the vest and want to preserve an air of mystery or whatever - that's cool too! But the sheer volume of behind-the-scenes content and livestreams and musical tutorials and fan outreach is like nothing I've seen in decades of being a music lover. Sometimes I feel like I'm being too hyperbolic when I gush about this band, but no, they're really giving it their all.

Can we get a big hand for Frankie Valli?

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" is one of my new favorite songs, thanks to the Happy Fits. The man himself turned 92 years old yesterday, coincidentally the last day of Lovesick tour.

Did the band use any other walk-on music in their previous tours?

Misheard Happy Fits lyrics

Been listening to a ton of Happy Fits lately, and the more I listened, the more I realized that I was not hearing the lyrics right.

Hold Me Down
Heard: Like a ten-ton truck and a saucerman
or???
Like a ten-ton truck and a Sossamon
Actual: Like a ten-ton truck into soft cement

I Remember
Heard: It's a Skeksi, and we're shaking
Actual: It's a stiff seat and we're shaking

You guys got anything?

Help me find this old Axl Rose article!

When I was a kid in the late 80s early 90s I used to read through all the metal magazines that my local drugstore had in stock: RIP, Hit Parader, Circus, Metal Maniacs, Metal Edge, all that shit. I chopped them up with scissors and put the pictures all over my walls, everyone from GNR to Stryper, so I don't have any back issues.

Anyway, there's this one short article in one of them that was like a brief Q&A with Axl Rose. Almost certainly a page or less. He talks about how he's taking up cooking now and his signature dish is a steak "marinated for 24 hours in Jack Daniels!"

That line sticks in my head 30 years later. Every time I throw a steak in my cart at the grocery store, I think to myself "how am I going to cook it this time? maybe I'll marinate it for 24 hours in Jack Daniels!" I never have though.

Does anyone out there know what I'm talking about? If anyone has a scan of the actual article, that would be even better.
