Sound of Sliver: a music game for the hardcore. Do you know the song in under 300ms?

You get ten songs, each starting as a 300-millisecond sliver. Spin a wheel, pick the title. The faster you guess, the more points you keep. Guess wrong and you get more of the song, but you lose points

I got the idea from Switched On Pop. They were basically playing this on the show, and one of the hosts could not get "Fantasy." I was on a walk yelling at my phone. Figured it'd make a fun game.

A New playlist every day. It's free and full of music puns, starting with the name. I made it look like our favorite old player that's no longer with us. Any feedback would be great!

Artists whose early work feels COMPLETELY different from what they wound up doing later?

So I finally got around to checking out some of Hoàng Thùy Linh's earlier music and I was like uuuuhhhh... what in the Rihannabees is this? Not that her early stuff is bad, but I came into it knowing her as the VPop queen who makes mature electropop blended with traditional Vietnamese sounds, so it was jarring to see her dancing in a warehouse to 2010s EDM.

Every artist is on a journey in their career and sometimes their journey takes them FAR from where they started, to the point where listening to their early work can feel like listening to a completely different person. This isn't necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, but it can be an interesting thing, so let's discuss.

  • Who are some artists whose sound/image at the start of their career is completely different from what they'd do later?

  • Was it a gradual transition, or a sudden shift?

  • Do they stand by their older work? Or are they ashamed of it and try to hide it?

  • Which "version" of them do you like more? Was the change a good thing?

Drum N Bass in Pop Music

Drum'n Bass but make it Pop? I've been building a playlist inspired by Drum'n Bass/Liquid DnB. I've noticed in the last two years a few (mainstream) artist or pop girls take on the genre have put their spin on it. Artist like Tinashe with “Tightrope” and most recently Ariana on her Petal album with "oh well" and "nowhere, nobody" these tracks have that fast paced DnB sound but more dreamy like. I have Pinkpantheress on the playlist already cause she is deep in the genre. What other songs would ya'll recommend that have a similar sound?

15 Years Of Little Mix!!

Happy 15 years of Little Mix.

For years, British pop had been defined by Girl Groups, the Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, All Saints & The Saturdays (to only name a few) had spent years dominating the charts.

By 2011, it was feeling pretty quiet enter Little Mix, originally known as Rhythmix. A group of individual X Factor auditionees became one, and given that is was solely by Kelly Rowland, a girl group icon, they were destined for success. It wasn't long after that they would become the first group to win the show. A feat that remarkably previous high ranking groups One Direction and JLS didn't do.

Within their first year as a group, Little Mix's first two singles 'Canonball' and 'Wings' hit Number One in the UK. Kickstarting a career which over the next ten years would lead to 5 Number Ones, 19 Top 10s and a combined total of every week they were in the top 40 equates to 6.6 years! 2 years of that in the Top 10.

In 2021, the group became the first girl group to win British Group at the BRIT Awards. After previous wins in the British Single and British Video categories.

During their ten years on top they collaborated with legends such as Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, Jason Derulo, Cheat Codes, CNCO, Stormzy, Saweetie, MGK & Sean Paul as well as performances and support slots with Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato.

From hosting their own TV Talent Show on BBC1, to being invited to host the MTV EMAs, in 2020 Little Mix were inescapable. And the members all continue to thrive to this day. Whether through their solo music careers and speaking up for incredible causes.

Their legacy is unmatched and there will never be another Little Mix.

Gotye has Officially Returned! Kicking things off with Pre-Orders for Repressed Vinyls.

Artist Gotye, Creator of Somebody That I Used To Know, is officially back in business!

Earlier today, Gotye announced pre-orders for reissues of Making Mirrors on vinyl. Gotye plans to release two variants of it; one with a special art print, signed by him and with two separate colored vinyls, and another that's repressed from his German vinyl release! (cream colored vinyl)

Afterwards, he will start going reverse chronological order of his albums, starting with Making Mirrors as mentioned, then Like Drawing Blood, and ending it with Boardface (the first time ever on vinyl)

This is all apart of his plan of Coming Back and there'll be more to come as stated! (Perhaps that tour leak..)

Here’s a screenshot of the email sent earlier today about it, including the vinyls!

Pre-Orders have started exclusively for ones who signed up for his mailing list on gotye.com and will officially be open soon for others to purchase.

Let's play a game... Pop Genie August 2026

Welcome to r/popheads monthly Pop Genie Game, where all your wishes are granted... kind of.

What is this? The Pop Genie Game is a game where users can make a wish, and other users will assume the role of a devious genie who technically grants the wish, but twists it in a way that ruins it.

How to Play:

  • Make a wish related to pop music / Grant someone's wish but ruin it.
  • When granting someone else's wish, get creative! Is the path to getting their wish more complicated than they wanted? Is there an unintended consequence? Or is the thing that they want actually something bad?
  • If you don't understand the concept, here are a couple examples:
  • I wish that Carly Rae Jepsen would finally get another #1 hit!: "She does, but it's a duet with Chris Brown produced by Dr. Luke."
  • I wish that pop music was more respected!: "Ava Max stages a global military junta and instates herself as supreme dictator of the planet- pop music is now a state mandated religion, and failure to properly stan will get you sent to a gulag."

And join us next week for another (Popheads Edition) game!
