In February 2014, Selena Gomez stepped out at London's Sketch restaurant in an almost entirely black outfit: a cropped top, tailored blazer, short shorts, and sheer tights.

Then came the shoes.

Her pastel-pink Giuseppe Zanotti patent-leather pumps were the one unexpected splash of color, with sharply pointed toes and slender four-inch stilettos.

But there's another interesting detail in the photographs. A close-up of the leather soles appears to reveal an EU size 38 stamp, consistent with Selena's reported US shoe size 7.5. The marking is slightly blurred, so we can't confirm it definitively.

One night, two Dior Haute Couture dresses, and two very different sandal moments.

At the 2020 Oscars, Charlize Theron’s thigh-high slit exposed a pair of textured black stilettos with delicate double ankle straps. Hours later, she changed into metallic Dior for the Vanity Fair party and slipped into Jimmy Choo Minny sandals — a style she had already worn on another major red carpet four years earlier.

We took a closer look at the shoes, including why we’re not identifying the mysterious Oscars pair as Dior without confirmation.

Blanca Blanco has returned to one red-carpet formula more than once: make the gown dramatic, cut the slit high, and let the shoes become part of the look.

We revisited her 2015, 2017, and 2018 Academy Awards appearances, from the sculptural Dennis Diem gown to her yellow-gold dress with embellished black stilettos and the custom red-and-white Atria gown that exposed a much simpler pair of nude ankle-strap sandals.

Chrissy Teigen’s 2010s shoe wardrobe is a surprisingly good snapshot of how celebrity footwear changed during the decade.

We revisited five looks from 2015 to 2019: Giuseppe Zanotti triple-buckle peep-toe booties, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s convertible Ora over-the-knee boots, Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals, Stella Luna Stella heels, and Jimmy Choo Minny sandals.

What stands out is the shift in visual weight. The early looks lean into hardware, suede, tall shafts, and substantial construction; later outfits increasingly use exposed feet and fine straps to balance dramatic clothing.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly went all-in on black leather for this 2021 Chrome Hearts outing, but their shoes told two completely different stories.

MGK grounded his look with heavy combat boots. Fox went in the opposite direction with Femme LA’s Macallan pumps: pointed-toe, clear slingbacks with towering 4.5-inch stilettos and vegan construction.

Farfetch can be incredibly useful when the designer shoes you want have disappeared everywhere else — but its marketplace model makes shopping there different from ordering directly from a fashion house.

We also did something more useful than simply asking whether Farfetch is “legit”: we compared actual designer shoes. Saint Laurent’s Babylone sandals were $1,300 on Farfetch versus $1,350 direct when checked in September 2026, while Prada’s mesh slingback pumps were $1,270 through both channels.

The cheaper listing isn’t automatically the better purchase. Shipping, duties, packaging, returns, sizing, and direct brand service can all matter when four figures are leaving your account.

In December 2015, Zendaya gave us a fascinating two-night snapshot of her emerging shoe style.

At T-Boz Unplugged, she matched a forest-green satin look with pointed patent ombré pumps from the footwear project she developed with Law Roach. The following night, she switched to black suede Nicholas Kirkwood metal-heel pumps with a periwinkle Self-Portrait lace dress for The Hateful Eight premiere.

Same pointed-toe idea. Completely different mood.

Rebecca Minkoff may be best known for the M.A.B. and Mini M.A.C., but her shoe archive deserves another look.

At her Fall 2014 New York Fashion Week show, Bella Thorne and Victoria Justice wore the same towering Rita gladiator sandals in dramatically different colorways, while Zendaya went in another direction with black-and-white grid-print block-heel boots.

We went back through the Your Next Shoes archive to trace those looks and other Rebecca Minkoff celebrity shoe moments, including Anna Kendrick’s Dante ankle boots, Jamie Chung’s Pip sandals, and Olivia Palermo’s Riley lace-up heels.

It’s a great snapshot of what made Minkoff footwear distinctive: familiar silhouettes made less predictable with straps, hardware, cutouts, texture, and substantial heels.

Some shoes were apparently never satisfied with just being shoes.

We dug into 19 of the strangest examples of footwear with a second purpose: stilettos with bottle openers, Reef sandals hiding a flask, wedges with secret storage, Pleaser platforms that hold cash, Chanel heels that light up, shoes with phone holders, high-heel planters, edible bread slippers, and even footwear that turns into clothing.

Then there are the ideas that seem to exist simply because somebody asked, “Could we put an abacus in a heel?”

Kate Mara went for precision rather than excess at Max Mara’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in Milan. Her geometric skirt suit already had plenty happening visually, so the shoes could easily have disappeared. Instead, those black pointed slingbacks reward a closer look: overlapping vamps, slim squared heels, and crystal-covered back straps.

It was also an interesting week for slingbacks. Jennifer Lopez wore Dolce & Gabbana versions in leopard and black lace, while Uma Thurman went glossy and bow-trimmed at Prada. Mara’s Max Mara pair offered the understated, sparkling alternative.

Jennifer Lopez gave us an unusually good shoe comparison in Milan: two pointed-toe Dolce & Gabbana slingbacks worn within two days, yet with completely different personalities.

On September 23, 2026, she committed to leopard from coat to toe in textured Dolce & Gabbana Lollo slingback pumps. The previous evening at Vogue World: Milano, black lace slingbacks quietly echoed the texture of her elaborate Alta Moda gown.
