Ciara’s Red Carpet Shoe Evolution: From Femme Mules to Metallic Heels and Leather Boots

Ciara’s red-carpet footwear can be surprisingly restrained even when the outfit is anything but. At the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, her dramatic Stéphane Rolland couture gown was grounded by delicate black Femme Shoes mules; elsewhere, metallic heels, pointed leather boots, and minimalist sandals changed the mood completely.

Four looks, four very different approaches to finishing an outfit:

Lily Collins’ Emily in Paris Shoes: Aquazzura Crystal Sandals and Hot-Pink Louboutins

Before Emily in Paris became synonymous with fearless fashion, Lily Collins was already filming in Paris in one of Emily Cooper’s defining early looks. The yellow Ganni co-ord is hard to miss, but look down: those black heels are Aquazzura “Whisper Crystal” sandals, finished with crystal-lined soles and gold square buckles.

For another scene, Patricia Field switched the mood completely with a Dolce & Gabbana floral dress and vivid pink Christian Louboutin “Agneska” Wave pumps.

We revisited the August 13, 2019 set photos, identified the shoes, and broke down both outfits:

Freida Pinto’s Charlotte Olympia Octavia Heels Turned an All-Black Look Into a Spider-Web Statement

Freida Pinto’s December 2015 appearance at the Audemars Piguet Rodeo Drive boutique opening is worth another look from the feet up.

Her Cushnie Et Ochs Resort 2016 separates kept the palette completely black, but the Charlotte Olympia Octavia sandals introduced the detail: suede cage straps inspired by the designer’s spider-web motif, sheer mesh, double ankle straps, a metallic island platform, and a towering stiletto.

The Octavia has since disappeared from primary retail, making Pinto’s photos a great record of one of Charlotte Olympia’s most recognizable platform designs.

Vanessa Hudgens Makes Barely-There Crystal Heels the Star of Her ’90s Slip-Dress Look

Vanessa Hudgens didn’t need a complicated red-carpet look to make an impression at the 2026 HollyShorts Film Festival.

Her ivory L’Agence slip dress was deliberately simple: fluid satin, narrow straps, and contrasting black trim. Then came the shoes.

Hudgens wore Schutz Rachel Glam sandals with slender crystal-covered straps wrapped across the foot and 4.13-inch stiletto heels. Against such an understated dress, they looked almost like jewelry.

We took a closer look at the shoes, the L’Agence dress, her diamond jewelry, and why crystal heels continue to work so well on the red carpet.

Julianne Hough’s Gold Giuseppe Zanotti vs. Blue Stuart Weitzman Sandals: Which 2015 Look Wins?

Two Julianne Hough red carpets, two completely different approaches to the barely-there sandal.

At the 2015 Creative Arts Emmys, her intricately embellished Jenny Packham gown flowed into metallic-gold Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Weeks earlier, she went in the opposite direction, pulling the vivid blue from her Monique Lhuillier floral mini into matching Stuart Weitzman Nudistsong sandals.

The interesting part is how differently the shoes work: one disappears into the palette, while the other becomes part of the color story.

Which would you choose: gold Harmony or blue Nudistsong?

Blac Chyna’s Sergio Rossi “Puzzle” Sandals Deserve a Closer Look

The full outfit was dramatic, but zoom in on the shoes. At the 2017 Maxim Hot 100 party, Blac Chyna paired her sheer black Dare To Be Vintage lace dress with Sergio Rossi “Puzzle” sandals covered in sparkling crystal details.

Their irregular cage construction almost looks drawn around the foot, while the open design also revealed Chyna’s colorful foot and ankle tattoos. The Puzzle is now an archive Sergio Rossi style, making these close-up red-carpet photos especially fun to revisit.

Which shoes look better?

Help me decide! I’m wearing this black dress to a wedding and can’t choose between these two pairs.
I like the gold strappy pair (bottom) but the champagne pair is definitely more comfortable.
Which looks better with the dress - gold or champagne? And is the difference big enough that you’d sacrifice comfort for the gold? Thank you!

Sandra Bullock’s Plum Velvet Temperley London Suit Hides a Pair of Alexandre Birman “Jenny” Heels

Sandra Bullock’s plum velvet suit was already a strong color story, but the detail peeking out beneath those wide-leg trousers made it better.

For her November 2021 Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, Bullock wore Temperley London tailoring with Alexandre Birman “Jenny” sandals. The black suede stilettos were densely covered in tiny gold-tone crystal studs, creating flashes of gold whenever the trousers moved.

The Fall 2021 shoes originally retailed for $695 and have since been discontinued.

Olivia Wilde Makes Two Opposite Outfits Work With Barely-There Heels at Locarno 2026

Olivia Wilde went from straight-leg jeans and sculpted black leather to a flowing Fendi gown at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival, but there was a thread connecting both looks: minimalist open-toe heels.

For The Invite photocall, she grounded an Alberta Ferretti leather peplum top and faded denim with black Manolo Blahnik Callasli sandals. At the premiere, she switched to silver Giuseppe Zanotti Intriigo stilettos beneath a black-leather-and-chiffon Fendi Resort 2027 gown.

The Intriigo is particularly interesting: Anya Taylor-Joy, Renate Reinsve, Jennifer Garner, and Bella Hadid have also worn versions of the style, making it one of the standout celebrity sandals of 2026.

Ciara vs. Cardi B at the 2018 AMAs: Two Completely Different Takes on Statement Sandals

The 2018 American Music Awards gave us a great example of how shoes can either sharpen an outfit or become part of the spectacle itself.

Ciara showed off her legs in Dsquared2’s black Riri sandals, with delicate wraparound straps and towering stilettos balancing her sporty color-block mini. Cardi B went in the opposite direction: her Dolce & Gabbana platform sandals were covered in dimensional flowers that continued the botanical theme of her dramatic Spring 2019 gown.

Same red carpet. Two very different footwear strategies. Which pair wins?

Alessandra Ambrosio Has Been Wearing Havaianas Slim Flip-Flops for Years — Her Black Pair Shows Why

Alessandra Ambrosio can wear practically any designer shoe she wants, yet some of her most recognizable off-duty footwear costs a fraction of a luxury heel.

During a July 2020 dog walk in Brentwood, she paired black Havaianas Slim flip-flops with an oversized psychedelic tie-dye hoodie and flashes of neon green shorts. It wasn't an isolated Havaianas moment, either: we've documented Ambrosio wearing the Brazilian sandals in multiple colorways over the years.

Even better for anyone who likes the look, the Slim hasn't disappeared into the fashion archives. It's still in production.

Lea Michele's Red Carpet Shoe Evolution: From Jimmy Choo Sandals to Casadei Mesh Heels

Lea Michele's style isn't defined by one signature silhouette—it's defined by how she uses shoes to completely change the mood of an outfit.

In this feature, we revisit two standout red carpet appearances five years apart. In 2021, she embraced saturated color in a hot-pink Alice + Olivia blazer dress with matching Jimmy Choo Minny sandals and an eye-catching Edie Parker rainbow acrylic clutch. Back in 2016, she took the opposite approach, pairing a sculptural Jill Stuart little black dress with striking Casadei mesh sandals whose sheer straps and double-buckle ankle cuffs quietly stole the show.

We also explore why these Jimmy Choo and Casadei designs remain relevant years later, how each shoe shaped the overall styling, and where they fit within Lea Michele's broader footwear history.

Sarah Hyland changed the entire mood of her outfits with just three pairs of designer sandals

One month, three red carpets, three completely different approaches to evening shoes.

For one event, Sarah Hyland chose Giuseppe Zanotti's glittering "Gwyneth" sandals to complement a dramatic J. Mendel gown. Days later, she switched to Stuart Weitzman's iconic "Nudist" sandals, proving how minimalist heels can let a playful outfit take center stage. She finished the month in crystal-embellished Brian Atwood "Avice" sandals that echoed the jeweled bodice of her Vera Wang cocktail dress.

It's a fascinating snapshot of mid-2010s red-carpet footwear, from one of the decade's defining minimalist sandals to two archival styles that have become collector's pieces.
