How can I improve my CV? Career advice?
I have now been trying to find a job since several months, without success. I would greatly appreciate if some of you could give me a feedback on my CV. Here attached is a possible CV that I would send to apply for a behavioral-analytics position.
More information regarding my background:
I have a training as a researcher in psychology, meaning that I am not competent to improve people's health. I did a PhD in cognitive psychology, before moving abroad to continue working as a postdoctoral researcher. I went first in France (one year), followed by the German-speaking part of Switzerland (3 years) and went back to Belgium three years ago. Getting a job as a researcher is extremely difficult, even when applying anywhere in Europe (let alone specifically Belgium). I recently moved to Antwerp and am looking for a job mostly in the region. That said, I am also looking in Brussels.
I am fully aware that my professional experience is irrelevant to industry jobs. It is therefore difficult to claim 10 years of relevant experience. I believe that I have very good transferable skills though. I analyzed a lot of data, ran a lot of statistical models, and have really good communication skills.
I am French-speaking and my Dutch isn't great at all. I have been taking Dutch classes since two years and will start intensive classes in September. I am fully aware that not being fluent in Dutch isn't helping. Despite this, I would really love making a career in Flanders and being able to speak Dutch fluently.
I am mostly applying for data analytics positions, but never managed to get an interview. I only got an interview for a pre-sale job because it required fluency in French and my analytical skills were appreciated. I am now starting to look specifically for jobs in Antwerp where French is absolutely essential, even if that doesn't correspond to my dream job or if it is an entry-level job. My impression is that French might be an advantage, even if fewer positions exist in the first place.
If you have ideas regarding alternative career paths, I would gladly take those. Data analytics is the most straightforward transition for a profile like mine, but I am clearly open to alternatives.
