SM refuses to hire SAs for anything other than freight

my SM (her first time working for DG) keeps hiring SAs (we had a skeleton crew before she started because half the store quit) and i am normally the one to work one of their first on the floor shifts with them, so i train them on all things sales associate. mainly register because that is the main job SAs do.

then, after they have been in for a week or so, i go into my shift with said new SA assuming they will be on register, just to be called by my SM and told that they need to be working freight and only on the floor because that’s what they were hired for.

i have been working for DG for almost 2 years, half of which were at a #2 in the region store. i have never experienced this dynamic before and it seems completely backwards, since it is normally keys that are on the floor during their shifts… i thought.

i recently asked her if she intended on hiring any SAs to actually work register (because her management is constantly on the register instead, and then she gets frustrated with us when xyz isn’t recovered, or the truck got checked in late, or abc rolltainer isn’t finished, or the ad isn’t out).

she laughed and said “maybe, but i don’t really need any.” mind you, she is using only like 2/3 of her hours for the schedule and we have the budget for at least 2 more SAs. like what the flip

is the survey thing on DGme actually going to do anything?

talking about that “employee satisfaction survey” or whatever that keeps popping up every time i open DGme on the office computer. is that just to give us a sense of false hope in our jobs or does corporate actually use that data to make pay/benefit changes?

i think i already know the answer to this, but it’s worth the ask.
