Allegations hearsay dms calling us slaves in their meetings?

I'm sure it could get eventually traced back to me but recently a store manager stated that they had heard from other stores they had information obtained from district manager meetings where they classify store workers as slaves . I don't know how many people purposely maintain recording of corporate employees to maintain professionality and to be treated like actual human beings but if you have to secretly record conversations or utilize a phone recording app then that would be useful like auto call recorder.

The Dollar General Employee Assistance Foundation. A Dark Psychology Breakdown

Dollar General loves to brag about its “Employee Assistance Foundation,

but when you strip the paint off, it’s one of the most textbook corporate manipulation tactics you’ll ever see. It’s not built to help workers it’s built to control the narrative. Here’s the truth they don’t want you to say out loud.

  1. It’s funded by employees, not the company.

DG gets the praise, but the workers are the ones donating. That’s classic illusion of benevolence the corporation positions itself as the hero while doing almost nothing.

  1. It only helps in “approved emergencies.”

Burnout?

Understaffing?

Unsafe stores?

Trauma from robberies?

Corporate pressure?

None of that qualifies.

They cherry‑pick situations that make them look compassionate while ignoring the actual suffering inside their stores.

  1. It’s a shield, not a solution.

DG uses the foundation as a deflection tactic. Whenever the news exposes their unsafe stores, robberies, or impossible workloads, they point to this charity like, “See? We care.

That’s not care that’s reputation laundering

  1. Recognition without responsibility.

They got national recognition for the foundation, but the stores are still dangerous, understaffed, and chaotic.

That’s performative empathy a psychological strategy where a corporation mimics compassion to avoid accountability.

  1. It distracts from the real issues.

DG wants you talking about their “charity,” not their OSHA violations, lawsuits, or the fact that workers are left alone for 10–12 hour shifts.

It’s a misdirection play, the same tactic magicians use: make you look at the left hand so you don’t see what the right hand is doing.vBottom line:

Dollar General doesn’t need an Employee Assistance Foundation.

Dollar General needs safe stores, real staffing, and fair pay.

Everything else is psychological smoke a corporate mask designed to hide the rot underneath.

They had Squidward fending for his life like a Dollar General Employee

Anyone ever notice this about Spongebob’s show? Squidward is the only Cashier. Kind of like Dollar General. Do you think Krabs was his equivalent of a Key Carrier? 😂 🤔 💭 ❓ Do you think he had to have Krabs void out an extra Krabby Patty or Kelp Shake??? 😂 I used to have a friend that did something terrible at one of his local establishments. He basically committed a horrific local crime against congregated people and was admitted to a crazy person place. 1 day before he Did It he showed me a YouTube video he was making… It was kind of like a YouTube Poop but squidward woke up in my friends room and he was wearing a black t shirt and jeans rather than his uniform. I remembered thinking this was weird because a distinct feature of Squidward is that he doesn’t wear pants. Unlike Sponge. Squidward was screaming in his room wearing a Black T-Shirt and Jeans. He was freaking out that he had to go to work at Dollar General and when he calls the Key Carrier over he loses his mind and goes on a rampage. Then my friend… Well he did something similar which kind of takes away from the joke for me but i still like the original meme.

very annoyed with this job sometimes

I got hired a couple months ago and immediately got promoted to a PT key, then they fired the FT key and gave me the spot within a week, I am the only closer other than the ASM on the 2 days off I have (definitely not complaining, i appreciate them accommodating me), but on the days I do have off, they constantly call me asking if I can come in because our SA’s are unreliable, no call no shows, calling off right before their shift, and just between people quitting and getting fired and the unreliability, its hard to breathe there and i bite my tongue every day i have off praying i dont get a call. i wish they would hire more people, since ive started we have lost 3 people and hired 0, and our managers keep telling anyone that asks that we aren’t hiring. im tired of picking up the slack for everyone else that rather sit at the register on their phone, or not even show up to do their work.

Inventory

Don't you just love it when your DM says store needs to be 100% when you have 3 employees besides yourself. And only one of the those 3 employees actually does their job I hate this place so much 🤦🏼‍♂️ I regret my life choices because of this place 😆

LSA Rant

Let me start off by saying this, I know LSA's are allowed to be left alone. Now that that's out of the way, I have a rant, you can choose to read you can choose not to read whatever I just want to get this off my chest. I was supposed to get off at 12:00 today, and a coworker came in thankfully early because he decided to just show up early. This is not where my frustration takes place, my frustration was caused by my manager going wherever they went for 50 minutes unannounced, no "hey I'm going on my break", no "I'm going to leave the store for a few minutes", nothing. I walked around for 40 minutes trying to find them, checked the back, checked the office, the break room, and nowhere to be found. My coworker ended up clocking in early since I was going home once the manager showed up since today is one of my family members birthdays and I promised them that I would get off by 12:00 and come home for the celebration. I call my mom and let her know that I will not be home on time because my manager is nowhere to be found and I cannot just abandon the store like that because I was basically alone at that point until my coworker showed up. I stayed almost an hour over and my manager was in the stupidest place ever to just abandon me like that, across the road at a nearby store. Not only did I get off work late without even being asked if I could stay over, but my family is very demanding and very not so understanding, so I got yelled at when I got home all because of something that wasn't even my fault and plus my manager has left MULTIPLE times unannounced and not even a break. Like they have completely left the store without breaking in or breaking out or even telling anyone for at least 5 hours on end and our district manager won't even do anything about it. Not only that but I had a problem with a customer and they were asking for the manager, like I said I was alone until another employee came in, no manager in sight and I had to fight it alone with this customer calling me a dumbass bitch over a fucking expired coupon in the app that I could not honor because it was EXPIRED. I had to point it out to her that it expired last month and that sometimes expired coupons can stay in the app even if you have clipped them. She still demanded to speak to a manager and I told her I'm basically the MOD and that the other managers are not there so she basically was speaking to the manager. She threw some products at me and ended up walking out when I tried to remain positive despite being pissed.

SM refuses to hire SAs for anything other than freight

my SM (her first time working for DG) keeps hiring SAs (we had a skeleton crew before she started because half the store quit) and i am normally the one to work one of their first on the floor shifts with them, so i train them on all things sales associate. mainly register because that is the main job SAs do.

then, after they have been in for a week or so, i go into my shift with said new SA assuming they will be on register, just to be called by my SM and told that they need to be working freight and only on the floor because that’s what they were hired for.

i have been working for DG for almost 2 years, half of which were at a #2 in the region store. i have never experienced this dynamic before and it seems completely backwards, since it is normally keys that are on the floor during their shifts… i thought.

i recently asked her if she intended on hiring any SAs to actually work register (because her management is constantly on the register instead, and then she gets frustrated with us when xyz isn’t recovered, or the truck got checked in late, or abc rolltainer isn’t finished, or the ad isn’t out).

she laughed and said “maybe, but i don’t really need any.” mind you, she is using only like 2/3 of her hours for the schedule and we have the budget for at least 2 more SAs. like what the flip

I'm quitting DG

I've worked at this DG in my town for almost 2 months and it's one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I got hired as a key carrier for $13 an hour. It's totally not worth the pay.

I'll start off by saying I've experienced most of the negative aspects already mentioned in multiple threads. Understaffed, overworked, no sense of accomplishment, terrible pay, etc.

But I have some gripes with this store specifically. The SM is terrible. She allows people to come into the store barefoot, shirtless, and with pets. I get it's difficult to determine if an animal is a service animal or not, so I'll give her that one. The shirtless thing bothers me a bit personally, but whatever. But the barefoot thing, I can't get behind that at all. That's asking for trouble. Our store is never cleaned properly and someone is gonna get hurt eventually. Also, it's just nasty.

The SM is also disgusting herself. She constantly orders doordash and then leaves her unfinished food behind, usually on the floor right next to the trash. Our store has roaches because of this behavior and it's mind blowing to me.

When I actually have someone with me for a whole shift, and I need to take a break, I'm required to be on site and available in case the associate on duty needs a void, refund, price change, pick up, change from the safe, etc. Why am I being forced to take an unpaid hour lunch but still be available to help the associate? Isn't that illegal? Shouldn't DG be giving me a paid break if I'm still expected to do tasks off the clock?

This job is horrible and I would never recommend it to anyone.

Tired of hearing about Bonuses

Long Rant about Bonuses

I am so tired of hearing about the SM getting the quarter or inventory bonus. Every time my DM holds a conference call he harps on ways that will help or hurt the SM bonus. I have listened to Store Managers brag about getting a big bonus or complain about not getting one. I do understand that it is a big perk if you receive one and a big disappointment if you don't but please stop talking about it because you are causing resentment from your team. The DM is also causing a lot of resentment because it is not always the SM on the conference call. If the SM is not available it is the ASM or an LSA that has to be on the call and believe me when I say that they do not want to hear about something they will never get.

Reasons for being tired of it

  1. Everyone that works in the store contributes towards the bonus. A SM DOES NOT do everything themselves. Especially since I know of one SM in my area that purposely scheduled themselves off on Fresh Truck Days and Compliance Tuesday mornings as well as refused to work the Dry Truck.

  2. There are stores in my District that go months without a SM. I have heard that one store went 8 months and my store hasn't had a SM for 6 months. Nobody in that store will ever receive a bonus no matter how hard they work to keep the store open and get everything done.

  3. An ASM or an LSA can do just as much as the SM while it is the SM that will take all the praise for a job well done. And God forbid if the SM gets called out for things not going well because everyone else will be blamed and sometimes even punished for it.

For the Love of God please stop throwing bonuses in everyone's face especially if the are not an SM.

First Rant ahh

It's my first ever rant I've done sOOO be prepared.. I had a guy walk out the store with items like medicine and soda without paying.  I was shocked honestly because I never had this happen before at least at this store.  after he leaves two of a customers following him and one of them knocked him off his bike to a point where he's bleeding. the other customer show him some back and he gives back the items with blood on it. I honestly don't know how to feel he told me a story about his life and how everything is going bad Etc and he apologizes too. I also feel bad for the fact that he got knocked off the bike and was bleeding. oh but also it's wrong to  Steal  and I'm a type of person who is okay helping people out and I wanted to help him out like maybe buy his things or I don't know honestly. I'm just having like this like  conflicted feelings. I guess that's it LOL also if you want to comment but  advice or stories that's cool too
