Update: temporary Post-Game Content delay thanks to: exhaustion, a big wet storm, power loss

(Temporary) bad news, gang

Gonna have to delay Post-Game Content, by my estimation, hopefully about a day. I'll spare you the life stuff, but I'm too bloody knackered and don't have full confidence I'm not missing something looking over the files again. Toss in a pretty gnarly thunderstorm that started hitting hard an hour ago while I was out at a cafe that's left me... currently out of power. (Buh dnn tsssh. Oh come on that one was good)

Thankfully my MacBook has, like, a ber-zillion hours battery life, but I'd feel a lot more confident checking over the code again with more rested eyes. Better this than I push the update and anyone's Natsuki takes a whack from a user who didn't back up their persistent.

BUT boy will it be worth it. I honestly can't wait to finally show you the baseline for what I've been building for you all year. My apologies, but bear with me just a liiiittle bit longer

P.S. I've been careful to not clog up the subreddit. My next post will be the submod!

Post-Game Content v1 FINALLY has an official launch date... and oops, it's in three days

u/zhaumbie — 7 days ago

To help celebrate Natsuki's newly-canonical birthday weekend, I've made her even MORE of a menace in Ichi! The beta testers loved this one. More submod updates coming all weekend!

From Team Salvato: "It turns out today (July 30th) is Natsuki's birthday! Happy birthday, Natsuki!"

[FIX] If Just Natsuki broke when you updated to the macOS 27 Golden Gate public beta... The fix is easy, here's what you do

I expect this to help basically one of youse. But boy will you be happy!

tl;dr

If updating to the Golden Gate public beta stopped Just Natsuki even trying to open, chances are the beta fiddled with Rosetta. Reinstall it and you should be golden. Pun intended.

Open up the Terminal app then paste this in and hit RETURN (AKA "ENTER"):

/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

Then try opening Just Natsuki again. This fixed the issue immediately for me. You shouldn't need to reinstall JN, mess with the persistent, fiddle around with your files, sacrifice a goat, etc.

If you're interested in why that works

I updated to the public beta earlier (and it is SUPERB) and tried to open Just Natsuki. Gatekeeper made me reauthorise it through the usual System Settings > Privacy and Security song and dance, but then it just... wouldn't open. No traceback, no visible error, no open then immediately shutting... hell, Activity Monitor had no idea I was even trying to open it.

So I dug around in Terminal and discovered this problem:

Bad CPU type in executable

Well that's no good!

But it's also stupidly common. Ya see, JN’s current Mac build—like many other Mac builds left to wither on the vine—still uses an Intel x86_64 executable. Apple Silicon Macs (AKA "any single Mac manufactured in late 2020 onwards") need Rosetta to run it. Nothing new there. The beta update apparently removed or broke Rosetta on my system.

Open Terminal and run:

/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

Then Rosetta's working again. Huzzah! Your game should be good.

"The Good Ending" DDLC mod officially on indefinite hiatus

I don't really know if this is my place to say, as I'd rather have let Sam make the announcement himself, but 1) this news broke earlier this afternoon and 2) Sam has not been active on Reddit in over a year, and 3) nobody here seems to have noticed yet. My apologies if I'm stepping on any toes or doing anything wrong by starting the discussion.

TGE - website

TGE - download

TGE - Discord

I'll let the words speak for themselves. From u/SamCapener, the mod creator of The Good Ending, found in the TGE Discord server:

> Hello @everyone

> This is an update on The Good Ending and what I've been working on.

> For a while now, I haven't been actively developing The Good Ending. I started this project a long time ago, when I was in a very different place in my life. Over time I began questioning whether continuing this project was really wise, as well as grew interested in pursuing other creative ideas. This project is expensive, and I can't charge money for it (nor would I want to). I have decided I want to pursue game development as a career, not just a hobby.

> Because of that, The Good Ending is on indefinite hiatus.

> I'm not cancelling it, and I won't say I'll never return to it. But for the foreseeable future, my focus is elsewhere.

> Typing this makes me a little sad. I can't put into words what this project has meant to me. It is an idealistic story about love, forgiveness, and hope, and although I didn't get to explore those themes as fully as I wanted, the project changed my life. And this project was always about the people who played it. If you played this game, were touched by it, you were part of the story and that to me is where the meaning is.

> My goal now is to build a career as a game developer by creating original projects. Maybe one day that success will give me the opportunity to return to The Good Ending. I hope so.

> Thank you for everything.

> From this point on I'm going to talk about what I've been working on. If you are only interested in DDLC, I understand. But I hope you'll be willing to support me. This is the only time I will send a ping for these projects.

end quote.

The rest of the post sounds a little too too personal for me to report verbatim, given it was served in a private server dedicated to his project and its close fans, but I want to highlight the upcoming works mentioned. They are:

  • Star Runners (Discord Invite), a visual novel with gameplay. "It's set in the far future on a galactic scale, with ancient artifacts and pirates and a class of adventurers called Star Runners. I first came up with the main characters before TGE, and stopped writing them to make TGE... I played things close to the chest with TGE, but I'd like everyone here to be invited to be part of the development of this game. Perhaps at some point I'll stop sharing as much with future parts, but if you're here I'd like you to have the opportunity to be involved in a unique way."

  • Pirate's Life Remastered, a remaster of one of Sam's favourite Roblox games

  • Rip The Sky: Poems of Wistful Days and Murder, a book of poetry that can be read for free ("there's hope, >!murder!<, and >!self-harm!<)

I've also tagged his Reddit account so, if he is active again, he will be notified of this post and can choose to elaborate further on his upcoming projects.
