Recurrent Patella Subluxation 34yo

Sup yall! I have always suffered from patella subluxation. I first noticed it when I was about 15, just laying on the floor on my stomach and went to get up and felt my knee dislocate. Didn’t think much about it. Then at around age 17, I had a full dislocation of my left knee that required hospitalization from a mosh pit at a concert. THEN around maybe 2012, when I was about 20yo, I dislocated my left knee fully and was hospitalized after trying to do a dumb flip in a children’s bounce house (incredible, I know). From then on out I have had small dislocations that crash me to the ground and straighten my leg out completely and then am sore for a few days after that. I saw an orthopedic surgeon in 2020, which was my last slight subluxation. (I was leaned back in a recliner playing the new Last of Us game and literally just put my legs down to get up and WHAM. I have wonderful luck! Haha! )The doc said that I just have a genetic disposition and it is something that I unfortunately have to deal with. He said either just exercise and strengthen those specific muscles in my leg, or surgical options. I try to stay pretty active and such, but I haven’t had a subluxation event since 2020… until yesterday. I am trying to get back into skateboarding because I remember how much fun it is. I just did a basic push off and twisted awkwardly and BAM! It happened. Now I’m freaking out because I want to continue doing this because it’s something Ive always enjoyed doing and I don’t want to be afraid to enjoy it.

LONG STORY, but any tips, encouragement, brace recommendations will be highly appreciated! THANK YOU, INTERNET WORLD, FOR YOUR TIME!
