Crazy bruising after TTO + MPFL surgery

I’m currently 1 week post-op from my TTO + MPFL surgery, and I have some extensive bruising going on all around my knee and lower leg. I’ve had two surgeries in the past (both MPFL) and I don’t remember the bruising ever being this bad. Luckily my pain and swelling has mostly subsided, but is this level of bruising normal?

I’ve canceled the knee surgery that I was supposed to have on Thursday…….

I've been thinking a lot about the surgery I'm supposed to have on my knee on Thursday, but I'm just not ready for it yet emotionally or mentally. I know I need to have it sooner rather than later because it's a full torn MPFL ligament and patellar instability, which won't heal on its own. I'm just so nervous and anxious about the surgery, and I'll be bedridden and unable to do some fun things with my family or ride my horse at all this year. I feel really guilty about canceling my appointment though….. Has anybody ever canceled surgery because they're not mentally ready or prepared to be bedridden??

Struggling 11 Months Post Op

I’m not looking for medical advice just to see if anyone has had similar experiences. I’m about 11 months post op from an MPFL reconstruction. I’m still having really weird symptoms. I have full range of motion and most of my strength back (92% on testing) though my operative leg is definitely still smaller.

The big things I’m struggling with are just this constant grinding/popping in my knee. Sometimes when I get out of the car I have to extend it and let it pop before I can even get out. It even kind of gets lightly stuck sometimes like I can move it but it starts to thump and then will “release” and snap back to normal. The light popping and grinding is pretty much constant at this point whether it’s going downstairs or squatting or even pedaling on the bike.

The other thing is the weird residual stiffness or maybe it’s pressure in my knee. I feel it mostly on the inner side where the surgery was. I wear a knee sleeve a lot just to distract from the weird tightness I feel.

So I went back to the doctor and got x rays and they showed this weird mildly displaced fracture and some Heterotopic ossification on my femur where it was drilled. My surgeon says it’s nothing to worry about, but it seems pretty obvious on imaging and makes me concerned that it might be a cause for my slow recovery. They told me to just go back to PT and work it out.

Has anyone else with this surgery had a similar story or have tips? I’m torn at this point between is it just my muscles need even more work or is it an actual problem that I need another opinion on.

Looking for advice regarding MPFL reconstruction

27f with bilateral patellar dislocations since age of 10. Over 30 in total. Less frequently as I’ve gotten older but still at least once a year. Last 3 have been the most excruciating and don’t go back in easily. They tend to happen with random movement, like planting my foot and turning around. I don’t live in pain daily but it takes about 6 weeks after each dislocation to feel normal. I also have the fear in the back of my mind it can happen at any time. I’m a pretty active person whose job is quite physical. I was told I have signs of early cartilage damage and if I do nothing about it I will likely end up with arthritis by 40. Was recommended I undergo an MPFL Reconstruction. Wondering if anyone has gone through this and what their thoughts are. Appreciate any advice you can give. Thank you!

My knee took a world tour. MPFL Question!

Kneecap went exit stage left. Doc thinks it's a partial MPFL tear, but I can't afford an MRI to be extra sure.

Doc recommended keeping SLIGHTLY mobile (bending allowed, some light crutch walking) to not atrophy. I'm scared of never healing it lol.

Can I heal I heal an MPFL tear without complete immobilization? Has anyone EVER healed a partial tear w/out immobilization?

I do wanna get back to dancing soon. I have a PT appointment scheduled for one week after dislocation. Too much?

Thanks in advance
