I’ve canceled the knee surgery that I was supposed to have on Thursday…….

I've been thinking a lot about the surgery I'm supposed to have on my knee on Thursday, but I'm just not ready for it yet emotionally or mentally. I know I need to have it sooner rather than later because it's a full torn MPFL ligament and patellar instability, which won't heal on its own. I'm just so nervous and anxious about the surgery, and I'll be bedridden and unable to do some fun things with my family or ride my horse at all this year. I feel really guilty about canceling my appointment though….. Has anybody ever canceled surgery because they're not mentally ready or prepared to be bedridden??

I’ve canceled the surgery that I was supposed to have on Thursday…….

Hi everyone, I was supposed to have my MPFL Reconstruction and TTO surgery Thursday but I’ve cancelled it because of severe anxiety. Honestly I don’t feel much pain right now, so I’m struggling to decide if I should even go for surgery. I’ve read mixed experiences online — Some say recovery is smooth, others say it’s very tough. This has left me really confused and scared. My main concerns are: How painful and hard is recovery really?

How long until you could walk, climb stairs, and get back to normal life like riding your horse/barrel racing??

Long term risks if I don’t do surgery? (like arthritis or knee giving away and dislocating)

Do you feel “normal” after 1-2 years??

If you had MPFL Surgery (or chose not to) could you please share:
1: Your recovery journey? (good or bad)

2: What helped you cope with anxiety around the decision?

3: Looking back, do you think surgery was worth it?

I’d really appreciate honest experiences. I just want to have some reassurance….

Does anybody have any medical devices or bandages on your ESSA so they match you??

I’m going to have surgery tomorrow morning and I’m so nervous, but my mom found an ACE wrap bandage and wrapped Gravy’s leg with it so he’ll match me, and he looks so cute with it!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’m having surgery on Wednesday and I’m so nervous….

I’m having MPFL reconstruction and TTO - cartilage repair surgery on Wednesday of this week and I’m so nervous, this will be my first time having major knee surgery like this but this isn’t my first time having operations. I’ve had a lot of dental work and eyelid surgeries in the past but I always get so nervous and anxious before I have them, how do you calm down your nerves and settle down before you had surgery?? I’m planning on bringing my emotional support stuffed animal with me because he really helps with my anxiety.

I’m having MPFL reconstruction and TTO - cartilage repair surgery this week…..

I’m having MPFL reconstruction and TTO - cartilage repair surgery this week (on Thursday) for recurrent patellar dislocations, and I wanted to ask teenagers/young woman/athletes who have already gone through this:

What recovery tools, equipment, or tips helped the most during recovery and what was the surgery/ recovery like for you??

Things like:

\* icing machines
\* braces
\* wedges/pillows
\* shower chairs
\* exercises
\* mobility tools
\* mental side of recovery
\* returning to soccer/sports

Also, is there anything you bought that ended up being a waste of money??

Trying to prepare as much as possible ahead of time. Thanks in advance.

Finally got the full results back from my knee MRI after dislocating my kneecap with a hard fall a couple months ago.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a much more serious injury than they originally thought
The MRI showed:

a complete tear of the MPFL (the main ligament that stabilizes the kneecap)

significant cartilage damage behind the kneecap

extensive bone bruising

and a partial ACL tear and a complex tear of the medial meniscus

To make things more complicated, this is the same knee I’ve already had a lot of previous patellar dislocations within 5-6 years now…..

After trying rehab and continuing to deal with swelling, pain, instability, and mechanical symptoms, surgery is now being recommended. The current plan is MPFL reconstruction of the torn ligament, cartilage repair/microfracture work, treatment of the meniscus tear inside the knee.
Has anybody ever had this kind of surgery done on you before? If so what was the recovery like??

Lassie and her new bandana and they look so nice and clean since I’ve cleaned/brushed them off this morning.

I've found a new red bandana for Lassie, and it looks so cute and adorable on her; she looks more like a farm dog now. I've also brushed her and Gravy off and put some of his gear on him because we're going on another outing to do some errands and go to some graduation parties this afternoon. I can’t believe my little sister and brother and some of my cousins are graduating this year….❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good night everyone, hope everyone has a great night and day tomorrow!!!

My ESSA Biscuits & Gravy says goodnight to all of your ESSA pups and other animals too. What are everyone’s plans to do for the weekend?? I’m going to go ride my horse around and enjoy the last few days or weeks with him while I’m mobile before my surgery which I’m still very nervous about and dreading the day….. I’m planning on bringing Gravy with me on that day so he’ll help me with my anxiety a little hopefully……
