PSA: GoodRX Wegovy coupon & Patients enrolled in Medicare or Advantage plans.
There seems to be some confusion in Pharmacy communities and amongst patients about this coupon, so I thought I'd clear it up.
The bottom line:
If you are enrolled in any government subsidized insurance program, you are not eligible to use this coupon.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Medicare
Medicaid
Tricare
VA
"That's okay," you might think, "I'm not using my insurance. I can just pay the cash price with the coupon."
Unfortunately, self-pay discount when insured by government issued insurance is specifically blocked by the terms of use. This is likely due to the Anti-Kickback Statute [42 U.S.C. § 1320a-7b(b)].
"Can't the pharmacy just say I'm not using government insurance?"
No. The restriction is based on eligibility for the program itself, not whether the claim is actively billed to that insurance.
Even if processed as cash/self-pay, patients enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, VA, and similar programs are still excluded under the coupon terms.
