F U Soccerway!
During the first decade of my life as a groundhopper, Soccerway was by far the most important website for planning trips. You’d pick a date on the calendar and immediately get a clear overview of which countries were playing football at that time; you could expand that view and then see the fixture list as well. If there was a gap in my work schedule, I’d often head straight to this site to see where I could fly to next on a budget airline. Then came Covid, and visitor numbers on the site seemed to have dropped, which is why it was even more cluttered with adverts than before. No problem, but then in 2021 there was an update where Soccerway redesigned its homepage for mobile – and made it unusable. Instead of seeing who was playing that day, you first had to scroll through endless lists of matches from the Australian regional leagues because all the countries were expanded by default. It was a nightmare, so the site lost its appeal for me and I tried to find alternatives on sites like Weltfußball.de or similar. But none of them were as well thought out as the old Soccerway. Then, half a year ago, came the salvation: scorebar.com, a new site with the old design and the user-friendly interface of Soccerway. Hooray, everything’s great! Now today: I wanted to go to the site and see if anything had already been scheduled for the international break in September: Scorebar has been shut down and redirected to the new Soccerway. F U!
