Anyone else work for an American company and have to remind bosses and colleagues of Canada day?

I work for an American company and its been about almost 2 years since I have working with my American colleagues. Previously when I would be sent a meeting invite on a Canadian holiday or Canada day I would politely remind them that sorry I am off that day.

Tonight I got home and just received a meeting invite from my boss for next Wednesday which of course is Canada day. Without providing an explanation I just rsvped No. I have a feeling it will be asked tomorrow why I declined. I shouldn't have to keep reminding you of Canadian holiday, especially Canada day and No we are not working that day.

Next time ill call a meeting on July 4 and said attendance mandatory. Plead ignorance and ask what's independence day?
