I’ve had a painful spin related issue for the past few weeks and have been reading a lot of science fiction as I’m taking rather strong painkillers while laid up in bed most of the day, and I’m looking for book recommendations for another few weeks of reading after I have an upcoming surgery.

I’ll finish Use of Weapons in the Culture series in the next day or so and feel like I could use a break from that series.

I have not read much science fiction beyond this besides reading Neuromancer many years ago. I remember liking it at the time, but I remember almost nothing about the book.

I seem to like space opera and hard science fiction books and am looking for books that would be considered more light reading (opioid meds=foggy brain at times), but I don’t like books that lean too close to YA. I see a lot of people recommending Red Rising, but that seems it may be too YA for me, or am I wrong about that book?

Anyways, I’d appreciate any advice on what to add to my reading list. When I look at lists of best science fiction books, I worry I’ll end up buying books that are too heavy of reading for my current situation.

I’m nearly finished using Unbalanced to move all data off of 5 nearly 10 years old 8TB disks in my array to newer, larger capacity disks.

My UnRAID server is running version 7.3.1, and the array is XFS and currently contains 2 parity disks plus 21 data disks. I want to remove the 5 8TB disks from the array and decrease the number of data disks in the array from 21 to 16 while keeping 2 parity disks.

Could I get a rundown of how to shrink the array? The info and videos I found are quite old, and many of them include using scripts that apparently don’t work with UnRAID version 7. Will I have no parity protection during the process? Thanks.

These Seagate 26TB SATA drives are the same price from GoHardDrive’s eBay store, and both come with 5 year warranties.

The 00C is listed as being “Factory Renewed” and has “Exos” on the pictured drive label while the 01C is listed as being “Factory Recertified” and does not have “Exos” on the pictured drive label.

What are the differences (if any) between these models, and which should I buy?

I’m looking to buy 2 of these 26TB drives and then sell off 6 nearly 9 years old 8TB WD Red Pro drives I have in my home server.

I’m running UnRaid version 7.3.0, and I have the Unassigned Devices, Unassigned Devices Plus, and Unassigned Devices Preclear plugins installed.

I bought 2 hard drives that are larger capacity than my 2 existing parity drives or any drive in my array. I’ve found conflicting info about how to go about replacing my 2 existing parity drives with the new, larger capacity drives as parity drives and then adding my 2 existing smaller capacity parity drives to the array as normal storage drives in the array.

Could I please get advice on how to go about doing this, preferably having at least 1 parity disk in place during the entire process?

My prescription recently changed, and I bought a 2nd pair of Maui Jim Kanaio sunglasses with the new prescription and MauiBrilliant lenses. I still have an old pair of the same Kanaio Coast frame with MauiBrilliant lenses from my old prescription, and I'd like to buy lenses with the new prescription for them too.

Are any online sellers of generic lenses worth it, or should I pay for MauiBrilliant lenses from my eye doctor?
