VIRI
After I got down from the Abano Pass, Georgia.
I bought this bike four months ago and started out trying bikepacking in this beautiful country, which of course I underestimated dearly.
Six weeks in and loving my kona more and more!
Viri means donkey in georgian.

Fifty shades of Unit
Bikepacking in Georgia. Guesthouses happily store gear you don't need for certain trips so my bike always look a bit different throughout the weeks.
- Freeriding in Tbilisi (too lazy to get the rat off)
- Full setup
- Roshka semi-lite
- Tusheti lite
- Svaneti semi-lite
You can imagine which setup I love most.

Transition to credit card - bicycle touring
Since last year I was dreaming of travelling by bike - instead of my car. Combined with planes, trains, cars...
My choice fell on a mtb, kona unit x. I was doubting forever wether to bring my camping gear or not. In the end I did.
I'm a month cycling Georgia and... barely camped. To reach the cost of guesthouses compared to the cost of my gear, I still have like a month to go.
I also wanted to focus on offroad but honestly, I absolutely hate it :') it's so slow, sluggish and with the hot weather here, I've gone through some gnarly singletracks sweating like a pig. Pushing up a loaded bike between rocks and boulders is just ridiculous.
In the middle of this month, after encountering another flooded offroad track, I got fed up and decided to keep myself to concrete, gravel or asphalt. It's just so, so much nicer. I found a new breath. Suddenly I could go around 100km per day.
Then again, after transporting my kona to the top of the Abano pass and downhill the whole thing, I really loved having a mtb to do this. I also crossed the pass again completely by bike, as I left all my campinggear in the mainland. Fantastic stuff :)
Also, I'm a hiker pur sang. I left my bike at guesthouses for days at a time to hike around areas and stay in other places. This is, next to drinking coffee and beers in cities, my main activity.
Any people here who recognize this transition or style of travelling?

LAZY ABANO
Left 80% of my stuff at a guesthouse, got dropped off by a Delica with my Kona strapped to the roof, right on top of the pass, downhilled all the way to Omalo and had an ab-so-lute blast.
Will I cycle all the way back to the valley or not?
No one knows!

Chaukhi Pass
This will eat at me for a while.
No real alpinism but I figured you guys know best.
Only 3400metres, Chaukhi pass, coming from Roshka. First picture is the highest I got.
On the left side you have the pass.
I didn't do it. The snow was hard/soft, when you punched through it you got to tiny, muddy scree that was easily floating down.
But it was only 100metres to reach the pass!
Then I saw this wall of snow (zoom). I didn't know what to expect over the ridge.
I'm kinda new to this so I wanted to know if I overreacted by going back or not.

Crossing the Caspian
Hiiiii people!
Tomorrow I will leave for my cycling tour beginning in Georgia; then Armenia; then Azerbaijan. I do not have a deadline, just a budget.
I wonder if it was possible to cross the Caspian Sea by ship, enter Kazachstan, then straight away go to Uzbekistan?
Are there any people here who have done this?
