adult 3 LTS (u.s.) movement vocabulary

TLDR: looking for suggestions or inspiration of movements that are possible at my skill level but that are not on the LTS curriculum, as thats all i know.

hello!

i just passed my adult 3 learn to dkate class in the u.s.. Next week is my birthday and i got myself the present of renting the mini rink at my local arena to have all to myself for an hour! just to dance and experiment with no one watching.

i got interested in ice skating because i am a (recreational) dancer , and i find the possibilities of dancing on ice to be very exciting. im here for personal expression and embodied movement.

i am learning skating through LTS so all the movement vocab i have is basically their curriculum. since im a beginner, and i don't know what i don't know, i would love to hear from y'all about other things i could be doing at this level but haven't been taught.

does my question make sense?

are there any resources out there about this?

or even guides for coaches and choreographers helping beginners craft programs.

thank you very much!

Hacks for Open Skate calendars

I am blessed to live in a hockey town with so many ice rinks, but it's extremely time consuming to track all of their open skate schedules. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how you organize tracking the public skates in your area?

For example, I go to each rink's schedule on their website once a month and i enter them into my google calendar.

I'm in minneapolis if you're local and want to collab on this project! honestly I want to share this calendar with others if i'm going to put more effort into it being accurate.

thank you!

Lake reccomendation please!

hello! I've lived in s mpls for a year and a half and am hosting my out-of-town sibling and their family for their 40th bday in a few weeks.

i am looking for a lake that

  1. is clean/clear with a section of sandy area without a bunch of plants (i dont like stepping on water plants)

  2. gets 6" deep within walking distance of the shore

  3. isnt crowded

  4. where we can bring a 100 lb reactive dog. she is a good girl but being around other dogs stresses her out. so we can't go to a "dog beach"

  5. within an hour of south Minneapolis

fwiw we are going on a friday, not a weekend day.

i know im kinda looking for a unicorn here! feel free to DM if you have an idea but dont want to share publicly.

thanks for your help!

Progress of skaters who started in their 30s/40s?

Hi everyone,

I just started skating in March and I really love it. I'm 36 and passed LTS adult 1&2, going to public skates about once a week.

I am curious to hear from other people who started skating in their 30s about your progess and how you got it. (like how often you skate, do you have a coach, etc)

I love to watch elite skating but I would really love to see something like improv by a solo ice dancer who is 40 who started at 35 or something. I have no gauge on how quickly or slowly it will take me to learn new skills! I know everyone is different and there are tons of variables.

like, I'm realizing that if I keep up with this, I might be able to do backwards crossovers within 1 year of starting skating. when I started I had no idea if that was something I would ever be able to learn how to do.

so! if you made it this far and you started skating in your 30s or 40s, tell me the story of your progress in the comments! and please share any videos!

thank you :)
