Top comment Deletes a US State #45

Here is the updated (Correct) map, crisis averted. I thought we had a riot on our hands!

I can finally relax now after all that drama! Anyway Colorado is now deleted as it should be. Just to make it clear, editing comments is fine if it’s the top as long as it doesn’t change the outcome of which state gets deleted like we had before. I thought that was common sense but clearly not to some people.

I just want to thank everyone for all the kind comments and support. I try to read as many of the comments as I can but each post has a minimum of 2000 so it’s pretty hard most the time. I have some big ideas for the finale so stay tuned.

Most importantly, spread the word as much as possible if your state is still in the game! Share, cross post to rally as much support for your state as possible. This is the endgame now!

Apartment hunting

Hi, I am a 23 year old male who’s maybe about to accept a job offer in Minneapolis. I’m coming from Texas so I do not know anything about the city. Hoping maybe people can help me out with where to live and areas to live and just general tips. Looking for apartments/studios under $900-1,000. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Birthday Party Rental Spaces

Hi all! I’ll have a 1 year old come August - and we are looking to celebrate! (YAY!) I’m looking for a park pavilion, or a large indoor space to host one at. I was looking at some of the pavilions in Eden Prairie, and wondering if you have to be a resident for these types of rentals.

Any suggestions for other parks, locations? We are in the metro area. Probably nothing east of river.

What are the most ridiculously affordable lunch specials across the Twin Cities?

I recently got laid off and am fortunate to have incredible flexibility for the time being. I’d like to check out some jaw dropping surprising lunch specials across the metro area. Deals that are almost too good to be true.

Any advice? I’m in the west metro but I have nothing but time so am willing to drive to check out your favorite lunch deals.

Local Gaming group looking for -Extroverted- friends who love LAN parties

Hey Twin Cities friends,

We have a private discord centered around connecting local TC gamers that want to play online together, have meetups, and love LAN parties. The group was started by a few core friends and has grown to a couple dozen cool people.

There is currently a bi-weekly LAN party going on and our first BIGLAN 2026 coming up in June. BIGLAN will be reoccurring each month with around 12 people if all goes well.

What we are looking for are people who would like to be an active member of our super awesome club and aren't afraid of joining us for regular online gaming, being active in channels, and helping us grow.

Current games we play are Arc Raiders, Counter strike 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Helldivers, Battlefield 4, and many others. We also have dedicated Valheim and Unreal Tournament 2004 servers.

Most of us are guys in their 30s-40s who have regular jobs, partners, and many are in the tech field.

- If this sounds like a good fit then feel free to send me a DM here or Reach out to me on discord- "the_winter_warden"

Thanks for making it this far and look forward to hearing from some of you! - Alex

Quick visit in June

Hi everyone. I'll be taking my tween kid to Mayo Clinic next month. We will have some time between their last appointment and our flight leaving MSP the next day. Obviously we don't have a ton of time and we're not really in the area for funsies, but I'd like to take them to check out the Mall of America - I'm not sure if the roller coaster is still there, but I rode it when I was about their age when the mall was new, so it will be fun to check it out. I have fond memories of the Twin Cities - growing up, we'd visit my grandparents. Watching what you all endured earlier this year (are enduring still?) really hurt my heart.

Minneapolis is so totally out of the news cycle these days, so I have no idea what things are like there. Will we feel safe? (Fuck ICE, to be clear.) It looks like Mall of America is right by the airport, so I think that given our length of time, we will just hang out in that neck of the woods. If you have any favorite restaurants in the mall or surrounding area, I'd love to hear about them.

My kid and I appreciate any insights you might have. Thanks!

Lake Harriet bike path etiquette

Last week I had two friends visiting from out of town. It was their first time in Minneapolis and I knew they would love a bike ride to Bread and Pickle. We biked down the Chain o Lakes on Wednesday early afternoon and had a snack and beer. It was glorious! After, we got on the path and headed back. I saw the one-way directional arrow / 10 MPH limit indicated on the path near B&P, but figured we could ride against the grain until we got to the Bde Maka Ska turn-off because there was hardly any bike traffic and there was no clear alternative place for us to ride. We did not want to ride all the way around the lake. Right then, a guy on an e-bike zoomed by in the opposite direction and yelled unspeakable obscenities at us (two gals and a guy). We were shocked and embarrassed. My question is: does an e-biker doing twice the posted speed limit have any moral authority to complain about people going the wrong direction? It struck me as a case of selective enforcement of the posted regulations. Thank you - I will accept the consensus in the comments!

House Permitting Help

Hi Everyone,

I am the owner of a duplex located in Minneapolis, MN that I purchased in early 2025 (first time homebuyer). Until now, I have been living in the duplex with my brother. I'm moving into an apartment with my boyfriend to be closer to work, and I recently applied for a rental license through the city as I have a renter who will be moving in July 1. However, I was informed that my house is classified as a single-family in their internal system even though my house is listed as a duplex everywhere else (the county property information search, the city property information search, TISH disclosure, etc.). I wasn't aware that my house was ever a single-family home, as it is not listed as such on any public website. The house actually used to be a side by side duplex but had a fire in 2018, and the other unit was torn down based on what I can tell from historic records.

The house was remodeled in 2019 by a contractor who purchased the property. I spoke with this contractor and he said that he had all the proper permits for the duplex and was shocked that the city would suggest it was not permitted properly. I was able to find his permit for the electrical (for a duplex) through the state. My suspicion is that the city somehow lost the permits (Minneapolis isn't great when it comes to record-keeping and can be generally incompetent). I spoke with my realtor and title search company which agreed that there is nothing anywhere online which says my house is a single-family.

I'm looking for advice as what to do next. My first idea is to call the Attorney General's office or try to talk to someone higher up in the city. In my opinion, it is not fair that the city wants me to pay $5,000 in fees alone for a misclassification that was due to their own negligence (the city has been classified as a duplex in every sale and TISH report since the remodel in 2019, of which there were 2 other sales). They also want me to hire contractors to look at the upper kitchen, the bathroom fans, HVAC, and plumbing, all of which were up to code in the inspection I had as part of my purchase.

Does anyone have any suggestion into what to do next or hear of a situation like this? Should I talk to a real estate lawyer?

Thank you for any and all suggestions, I could really use your advice.

Do you remember this 'mall'?

I had a random memory today of a small shopping center in SW Minneapolis or maybe Edina or SLP. I probably went there once in 2005 or 2006. I seem to remember it being pretty small and with only a few stores. I think Banana Republic was the biggest store but the rest seemed like smaller indie shops. It felt like it was nestled in a neighborhood too rather than surrounded by large suburban streets like France around Southdale. I don't think it was 50th and France but maybe the area has changed so much I don't recognize it as the same place. I think there was an interior corridor or maybe a sort of arcade (in the architectural sense) with wood flooring? I'm pretty sure it was West of Penn and north of 62.

Does this ring any bells?

small craft fairs?

Hi! Wondering if anyone knows of any smaller craft fairs going on in the cities/metro area this summer? I’m starting up a press-on nail selling business and wanted to try out selling at a craft fair but I only know of the really big ones… Any info/event suggestions appreciated :) Thank you!

Best bean and cheese burrito in town(s)?

A seemingly simple request with some CA nuance…

Although I’m not, my mom was a vegetarian who raised little ‘ol me in California. As such I have a warm nostalgic feeling for a nice, simple, but otherwise gigantic bean and cheese burrito. Taco Bravo from Campbell/Santa Clara CA is my gold standard reference point (probably should caveat early 1990’s and before)

Basically refied beans and cheddar cheese preferred (at least- not mozzarella) in copious, finely shredded amounts with a decent hot sauce dropped there on a large flour tortilla.

Seems simple, and can get anywhere- but does anyone have favorites? I haven’t found a good go too yet.

Bonus for eastern Saint Paul areas.

Why are HOA/maintenance fees in the Twin Cities so high?

I lived in St Cloud for many years before leaving MN for a job in California (wow, was that a mistake). I'm going to retire in a couple of years, and I want to move back to MN -- but to Minneapolis, St Paul, or one of the ring suburbs, not St Cloud. I want a condo or townhouse, not a house, and I've found some good ones in good neighborhoods, any of which I could buy outright with my savings.

But good grief, the HOA/maintenance fees are HIGH. I saw one lovely place, 2br2ba, in Edina, for $275K, but with $991/mo. for the HOA. Other places I've seen have similarly high HOA fees. Why? I've had folks tell me that snow removal adds a lot to costs, but I paid only $75/mo. in St Cloud for HOA/maintenance, and snow removal was pretty crucial then and there, too. What gives?

Would you live in Lakeville or Eagan?

My wife and I are looking to move to Lakeville or Eagan. I have read countless Reddit discussions about suburbs and the general consensus I see is that Eagan > Lakeville. However, I just wanted to create a new form to discuss some things that are more tailored to my preferences to see which city aligns better.

My priorities are

  1. My kids
  2. Good housing
  3. Things to do

When it comes to my kids, I feel both Lakeville and Eagan are top school districts, and that I really can't go wrong. My goal here is to be around other like minded parents who make their kids a priority. I also want there to be neighborhoods where my kids can make a lot of friends.

When it comes to housing, it appears Lakeville actually edges Eagan out here. In my price range (450-600k), my wife and I are really liking the house options more in Lakeville than Eagan. I know that this can change, but currently this is where we stand.

Finally, it appears Eagan edges out Lakeville when it comes to activities to be involved with. I am personally a big pickleball player, and I know Chips is a great facility.

Individuals who are more familiar with these two areas, what do you recommend, and why?

Looking for a hotel room with this set up.

Specifically, a big glass shower in the main room. Location is pretty irrelevant. Google wasn't very helpful. Cost is... well, cost is always a factor, but I'm willing to go over budget.
