ninersnation.comWe desperately need Morris to succeed as DC
Now it goes without that we need our DC to be ‘good’ at his job, but I’m gonna look at some nuances here.
I think a lot of Niners fans (including myself) forget that we lack consistency with our defensive coordinations. Morris is gonna be the 5th DC in 5 years since we’ve not had a DC coach over a season since DeMeco. Whether it’s due to their success (Saleh and DeMeco) or subpar performances (Wilks and Sorensen) is irrelevant, although, you can certainly make the argument that if either of the latter had performed better, they would’ve stuck around longer.
Regardless, Morris is definitely a candidate to break the spell. He’s close with Kyle and has been fairly successful as a DC. More importantly, he just got fired from his third HC job, so it’s unlikely he’ll get another one soon if he exceeds expectations (fingers crossed). But he’s also no Saleh or DeMeco, and I think expectations should be tuned down accordingly.
The defense is in a critical spot right now in my opinion. I like the depth, sure, but last year we were one of the youngest teams in the league in the defensive side of the ball. And while this year’s draft didn’t focus as much on defense as last years, stability at DC is crucial for the development of last year’s rookies moving forward (considering they make up almost half the team).
The Niners clearly lack defensive consistency as compared to offensive. With Kyle, the worst you’re gonna have is an offense like that of last season’s, which all things considered, performed somewhat well. A consistently decent to good defense with stability at DC will do this team wonders and is overdue.

MEXICO CITY!!
Oh, how I wish I could afford the Mexico City game. Anyone going?

Mexico City
Looking at maybe traveling to MXC for the game and curious where to stay and what areas to avoid. Just found out there’s a concert I want to see that same week so I’m even more into it now.
Kittle at OKC game
I love George Kittle, but he has let me down by cheering for the Thunder. They are unbearable to watch.

essentiallysports.com[RotoWire] 2026 NFL Schedule Rankings: Loss Index Grades All 32 Teams
We're #3 in punishment behind KC and Buffalo. 27,568 round-trip miles is among the most in the NFL, and we're staring at the 6th-hardest strength of schedule. The ONE gift: a Week 11 bye right after our Munich game against Detroit (apparently most teams with international trips didn't get that luxury, so I'll take the W).
Brutal slate for a team trying to take the next step, but honestly? Trial by fire. If Drake Maye and this roster can grind through this gauntlet, we'll know exactly what we have. Do Your Job. 💪https://www.rotowire.com/football/article/nfl-schedule-rankings-loss-index-grades-all-32-teams-114945
