For reference, the person who wrote this iteration of the tale I’m using, was the ancient Roman poet Ovid, whose poems often focused on characters questioning authority, and painting those in power in a bad light,
And because there poems often focused on such themes and meanings, the destroyer of the Roman republic, emperor Augustus, banished Ovid to the edges of the empire, to silence them, so they can no longer spread such dissent to power through their works.
Now, 2000 years later, let me ask you, why does such censorship sound so familiar?
This fall, Iowans vote on a constitutional amendment requiring a 2/3 supermajority to change income tax rates. Capping income tax flexibility is a "constitutional handcuff" and shifts the financial burden straight onto local property taxes (or 'regressive' sales taxes).
Limiting state revenue doesn't eliminate costs—it just forces a reliance on unfair sales taxes or pushes the financial burden directly onto local property taxes to fund rural public schools and local hospitals open.
Saying "no" isn't about wanting higher taxes; it's about being pro-community.

Jefferies just doesn’t get it. He seems almost as out of touch with what’s happening to ordinary Americans as some of his GOP counterparts. It’s disgraceful watching establishment politicians cling to the same tired ideology and protect the status quo while the people they supposedly represent are left behind.
This isn’t really about Democrats versus Republicans anymore. It’s about an entrenched political establishment that has become far too comfortable with its own power, money, and status. Schumer has shown himself to be weak and ineffective, and too many others have demonstrated that they are more interested in preserving the system than changing it.
I’m tired of the excuses, the political theater, and the revolving door of establishment leadership. We need new people, new ideas, and representatives who remember that Congress belongs to the people—not to party leadership, wealthy donors, lobbyists, or special interests.
The rot is bipartisan. The answer should be bipartisan, too: clean house and take the people’s House back.
DHS is hell-bent on getting something Donald Trump can call a wall built before congressional Democrats or judges can shut them down, and they don’t care what needs to be destroyed along the way. Right now, they’re trying to smash through Big Bend National Park, with bulldozers clearing lands that have been untouched for millennia.
Local officials, business owners, and conservationists warn the regime is going to kill tourism along threatening ecosystems, wildlife, and a national treasure. And organizers are hard at work trying to put sand in the gears. 🗣️ The No Big Bend Wall coalition is asking us to reach out to our members of Congress asking them to object to the project and defund it, with call scripts here, along with signing this petition. 🗣️
CBP is also accepting public comments on how this project could affect the environment, cultural resources, and the local economy and community through August 31st. ✍🏽 We can register our opposition by emailing BigBendComments@cbp.dhs.gov with "Big Bend Vehicle Border Barrier System Construction" in the subject line. ✍🏻
Finally, K at We (the People) Dissent (who we can thank for this entire action) has identified multiple contractors working on the project: Barnard Construction, Southwest Valley Contractors, and Fisher Sand & Gravel. 📢 Let’s write, call and email them to voice our disapproval, along with commenting on their social media and review pages. 📢

Is Shakespeare still relevant to teaching empathy, or are we forcing an old literary tradition onto a modern world?
