A level OCR A chem year 12

Can anybody help me 💔💔💔
Rn my ucas predicted grade is a D but i need to improve it.

Any advice how to improve?
Since u need at least 50% to even get a E, the questions i always get right are the maths/moles questions. But explanations, equilibrium, enthalpy, alcohols, alkanes/alkense are some of my weaknesses.

Practical experiments as a private candidate for CIE

I am a private student doing physics bio and chem for cie oct/nov. My exam centre provides lab access however they won't give any support other than just supervising to make sure I don't break anything. My teachers (online school) are of no help and tell me to either just go through past papers or look at the text book or just mail me the syllabus for 2025-27 when I ask for help on any idea of what experiments I should expect. I get a vague answer of there's no set list of experiments. Could you please help me out. I am watching Youtube tutorials but I would like to hear from school students on what they've done and fellow private candidates.

Looking for science teachers to review a new General Chemistry Workbook

Hello everyone,

I'm the author of General Chemistry Workbook: 340 Exam-Style Practice Problems with Worked Examples and a Complete Answer Key, published under my pen name, N. H. Varelas.

I've developed this workbook for high school, AP, and first-year college chemistry students, with a focus on exam-style practice, step-by-step worked examples, and a comprehensive answer key. My goal was to create a resource that teachers could use to supplement classroom instruction and give students additional practice.

I'm currently looking for science and chemistry teachers who would be interested in receiving a free review copy through Booksprout in exchange for an honest review. I'm especially interested in feedback on:

  • The accuracy of the chemistry content.
  • Whether the questions are appropriate for the intended level.
  • The clarity of the worked solutions.
  • Any suggestions for improving future editions.

Review copy (Booksprout):

Amazon page (for a preview of the book):

I'm happy to answer any questions about the workbook or the process behind creating it. Thank you for considering it, and I appreciate any feedback you may have.

Self-studying AS Chem (9701) for Oct/Nov Help

hey guys,

so basically i’m doing the oct/nov cie AS chemistry exams (p1, p2, p3). i’m self-studying the whole thing at home without a tutor to save some cash, and honestly, i just started and im superr lost

i'm aiming for an A/B but my biggest issue is discipline. i have a super short attention span, i get bored easily, and i really struggle without a rigid routine. if i don’t have a clear structure, i just freeze up then waste my time doing nothing

my goal is to finish the entire syllabus and past papers before A2 starts on Sep 1st. if anyone else self-studied and managed to stay on track, how did you break down the weeks/months to cover everything that fast? also, should i focus on topical past papers, yearlies, or a mix of both to hit this deadline? basically how can i manage my time and the syllabus / how can i make a plan for this?

also, i'm going into year 12 (A2) now. i attended AS lab classes before but pretty much forgot everything. do you think it's okay to ask my school if i can practice in the lab during my free periods, or is that pushing it?

lastly, once sep 1st hits and i have to focus on A2 content, how do i avoid forgetting all the AS stuff before the actual exams in oct/nov? balancing both sounds terrifying.

any tips on engaging study methods (good YT channels, websites, etc.) or paper 3 prep for someone who gets distracted every 5 minutes would be amazing.

any help would be really really appreciated!

Can someone tell me if I should reappeal? Urgent!!!

I applied for revaluation once already as I only need one mark for A* and the question below looks like it has a chance. However, when i got my results not only there wasn't a single change in my marks but even the correction looked identical. My answer clearly say gibbs is negetive just like the marking scheme but I haven't received even one mark both the times. Please look at the question and tell me if I'm wrong or scambridge is finding new ways to make money.

For Chemistry which books should be used iat ? Seniors pls help 😭😭

I'm enrolled in an Aakash NEET 2027 dropper batch, but my long-term goal is to prepare primarily for IAT 2027 while keeping NEET as a strong backup option.

My main study system is:

  • Stay synchronized with coaching classes.
  • Complete Aakash modules and homework.
  • Study NCERT thoroughly.
  • Solve PYQs and take tests seriously.

For additional understanding and scientific curiosity, I'm planning to use:

  • Campbell Biology for Biology.
  • Amit Gupta's Physics books for conceptual understanding.
  • SBT for advanced problem-solving after a chapter is mostly completed.

Now I'm trying to build a similar setup for Chemistry.

Since I already have Aakash modules and NCERT, which chemistry books would genuinely add value for:

  1. Physical Chemistry (concepts + problem solving)
  2. Organic Chemistry (concepts + problem solving)
  3. Inorganic Chemistry (concepts + problem solving)

I am not looking for a huge list of resources. I want a minimal-resource approach that complements Aakash material rather than replacing it.

I already own Modern ABC Chemistry. Should I continue using Modern ABC for Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry, or would some other book provide significantly more value for an IAT-focused student?

I enjoy understanding science deeply and don't want resources that are purely exam-oriented. My aim is to build strong conceptual understanding while remaining aligned with my coaching schedule.

How would you recommend integrating these chemistry resources into a routine alongside coaching, modules, NCERT, PYQs, and tests without creating resource overload?
