[Crosspost] Hi reddit! I'm Jay McCarrol - composer of TONY (out in theaters nationwide this weekend from A24), BLACKBERRY, and HELL OF A SUMMER. I also co-created and co-starred in NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE alongside Matt Johnson. AMA!

I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor/comedian/composer/screenwriter Jay McCarol. He has composed the scores for films such as BlackBerry, Tony, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, Hell of a Summer, The Kid Detective, The Dirties, and Operation Avalanche. He is also the co-creator (with Matt Johnson) of Nirvana the Band the Show and its TV show and film.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1vskgy8/hi_reddit_im_jay_mccarrol_composer_of_tony_out_in/

He will be back at 3 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

His newest film, Tony, is out in theaters via A24 this weekend. It stars Dominic Sessa as Anthony Bourdain and co-stars Antonio Banderas, Stavros Halkias, Emilia Jones, and Leo Woodall. It premiered to critical and audience acclaim a few weeks ago.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1MVnzd2aVc

Synopsis: Nineteen-year-old Anthony Bourdain stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that shapes the course of his life.

Thank you :)

SU August 24th Possibilties

Currently, 3 horror movies are releasing on august 28th
Buddy
Colony
Spider Island

Runtime:
Buddy and Spider Island are both listed as 1h 35min, while Colony is 2h 2min(Amc listed as 1h 41min) so Colony would be off the list.

Ratings:
Buddy is listed as Rated R
Colony is listed as Rated R
Spider Island sits at NR for now, if it remains NR buddy has a high chance(unless they pull an ICM again)

on Monday, the buddy trailer was also shown. Spider Island and Colony did not have their trailer shown, so i’m very hopeful that 8/24 would be buddy
Edit: There was a trailer for colony shown.

When It ends ended, I said is that really how it ends😂

Ending was so abrupt and random, I get it to a certain extent, but it was still so abrupt and I couldn’t believe it I was stunned for a whole minute.

Buddy vs It Ends: ALL the Evidence!

I’ve been doing a full investigation on tonight’s screening. Let me know if I missed anything!

In the PRO-BUDDY column:

  • Celebration Cinemas listed their rating as “severe” gore and violence, and “moderate” profanity. The ratings guide for Buddy? “Severe” violence, “moderate” profanity! This would eliminate It Ends which appears to have no violence. Celebration ratings have correctly predicted many AMC screenings, including the last four.
  • Many AMC locations have two screens dedicated to this screening. They typically only have one for a mystery screening. Could this mean it’s a more anticipated film?
  • A Reddit commenter said the manager of her local AMC told her it’s Buddy.
  • Another theater chain, Galaxy, has their screening for tonight listed as an “explicit hard R” rating. Which would also eliminate It Ends (the softest of R ratings).
  • Galaxy lists the runtime for their screening as 107 minutes. Buddy is 95 minutes. It Ends is 89 minutes. Mystery screenings have historically not stretched their stated runtime by 18 minutes.

In the ANTI-BUDDY/PRO-IT ENDS column:

  • A leaker who apparently has a good track record gave a clue for the Regal screening pointing towards It Ends. But could Regal be showing a different film? It’s uncommon, but it HAS happened before.
  • A Reddit commenter said he works at AMC and the actual runtime of this screening is 89 minutes (the length of It Ends). He also said it has the Buddy trailer attached. Which would eliminate Buddy.

In the WILD CARD column:

Blood Shine could still be in play. It’s 100 minutes, releases in 11 days, and while there’s no ratings guide, presumably it has gore and violence, which could explain the rating. (However it also appears to be a highly sexual movie, which was not stated. It is also being released on streaming, and limited cinemas.) Camp Miasma seems to be out of the running given it is already out in limited release and has a longer runtime.

So the question is… WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?!??? If it’s not Buddy, did Celebration just make a mistake? And Galaxy? Let me know your thoughts! I think it’s 50-50, but I’m still manifesting an orange unicorn!

PS: Yes, I’m aware I have too much time on my hands. 😯

Fire at our theater right before showtime

We just got to our seats. So excited to see the scream unseen and the fucking fire alarms start going off. Right at 7pm. I’m so blown. Hoping they’ll start the movie over if we can go back in soon.

FWIW, Celebration Cinema posted their 8/24 screening today…

I’m not sure if this adds any clarity on whether Buddy is more likely for the 24th or not

What are the chances of Buddy for tomorrow?

it’s my first time doing a Scream Unseen Aug 17! It seems like Regal is getting It Ends… but is it possible AMC still gets Buddy?

What are the odds of it being Buddy vs It Ends? Do they typically do these 10 days in advance or closer to the release date? I’m dragging my friends tomorrow and they might actually murder me if it’s not Buddy 😂
