TIPS AND REMINDERS BEFORE BUYING A GAMING LAPTOP

Planning to buy Acer Nitro and this will be my first time buying a laptop actually, what are the things I need to consider/keep in mind and what are the primary issues and concerns about Acer in general especially when the unit aged and in the long run of using it. I'm really avoiding the future hassle and use the unit at its full potential

Is the storage/ram soldered?

Hello, I recently bought the Nitro V16S (ANV16S-41-R2AJ) and was looking into eventually upgrading the 1TB storage space to 2TB down the line. The RAM isn't an issue for me at the moment (32GB DDR5), but storage is something I always seem to need, so this is my main question. I'm not big on laptops/computers (I've played on console for most of my life) so I'm sorry if this is a dumb ask or not.

Need for Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-58)'s DC jack.

I need to replace the dc jack of Acer Nitro 5 cuz the charger ain't going all the way in. I tried looking for the parts in local markets but it can't seem to find it. I have found the part I need on ebay but they are not shipping at the address (country) I currently live in.

It would be helpful if someone can guide me where can I buy the part either online or offline. I currently live in India. If someone in India can help me find and ship the dc jack to me, It would be very useful.

Thanks in advance..

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58: 2-Minute Black Screen Before Acer Logo + dGPU-Only Mode No Longer Works

TL;DR: My Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 stays completely black for ~2 minutes before the Acer logo appears, then boots into Windows and works perfectly normally. The only major issue is that dGPU/NVIDIA GPU-only mode no longer works. Looking for people who have experienced this specifically and whether BIOS/EC recovery or BIOS reprogramming fixed it. Please don’t suggest basic CMOS reset, power reset, battery drain, etc.

Full issue

Hey everyone,

I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 with a very strange issue.

When I press the power button:

  1. The screen stays completely black for around 2 minutes.
  2. There is no Acer logo during this time.
  3. After roughly 2 minutes, the Acer logo finally appears.
  4. Windows then boots normally.
  5. Once Windows loads, everything works perfectly fine.
  6. No random crashes, freezes, BSODs, or other obvious problems.
  7. The NVIDIA GPU works normally in hybrid mode.
  8. However, dGPU-only / NVIDIA GPU-only mode no longer works.

The fact that the black screen happens before the Acer logo is what makes this particularly strange. It seems more like something happening during POST/firmware/hardware initialization rather than a normal Windows driver issue.

I’m especially interested in whether this could be related to:

BIOS/EC firmware
BIOS corruption or a bad BIOS state
NVIDIA dGPU initialization
MUX switch / GPU-only mode
POST taking an unusually long time
Motherboard-level dGPU/MUX circuitry
BIOS Crisis Recovery
BIOS reprogramming

I’ve already gone through the usual basic troubleshooting, so please don’t suggest CMOS reset, power reset, battery drain, holding the power button, etc. I’m specifically looking for deeper troubleshooting or people who have encountered this exact behavior.

Has anyone with an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 experienced:
~2 minutes black screen → Acer logo → Windows works normally → dGPU-only mode doesn’t work?

If you fixed it, I’d especially like to know whether BIOS recovery, BIOS reprogramming, EC firmware recovery, or motherboard repair solved it.

Thanks!

(Help)

My AN515-57 i5 11400h 3050ti Upgraded (32GB, 1TB) is crashing/freezing when I try to play games when the charger is plugged in. I have tried watching, reading forms from the Acer community on how to handle this specific problem. I am still searching as of now and it has been 2 weeks and I tried repasting a day ago and it did somehow lower the temps from 71 degrees to 40 - 60 degrees on idle (one of my problems last week). But even tho I repasted it when trying to game while charging it just freezes and I am forced to restart my laptop.

Thermal throttling problem

I have a acer nitro v15 with Intel ultra core 5 210 h and rtx 4050 . The moment I launch a game the the temperature reaches 100, and it remains around 96 -100 . It is under warranty , so I called the service engineer he has cleaned and repasted everything , and still, the cpu reaches 100 instantly when launching a game and remains around there . I have no idea what to do anymore.

NitroSense 5 working on the AN515-58 — one download, one click, with an uninstaller

Acer says NitroSense v4+ doesn't support our model. That's not a hardware limitation. Your BIOS already implements the entire fan/thermal control interface — Acer just stopped listing the AN515-58 in a text file inside the app, and their installer looks for a chip our BIOS doesn't report.

I worked out exactly what blocks it and wrote an installer that handles the whole thing. On my AN515-58-50YE (i5-12500H / RTX 3050, BIOS V2.21, Win 11) I now have NitroSense 5.2.57 with:

  • Working fan control — Auto / Max / Custom all genuinely drive the fans
  • Live CPU/GPU temps and fan RPM (I verified the GPU temp against nvidia-smi — it's real, not faked)
  • The physical N key on the keyboard opens it
  • Survives reboot, starts automatically

Screenshots below.

Download (everything in one zip, ~623 MB): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Yh6VV3nWQnNHfKndo_9ESKGYPr_XrE2H/view?usp=sharing

I'm hosting the full package because this specific version is genuinely hard to find on Acer's support site. The Acer files inside are original and unmodified — still digitally signed by Acer, and the app package is still signed by Microsoft. Acer's own License.txt is included. The only things I added are two PowerShell scripts and a README.

⚠️ Read this before you start

1. Do NOT uninstall your current NitroSense v3.1 yet. Leave it until you've confirmed fan control works. Both can be installed at the same time — just don't have both apps open at once, or they'll fight over your fan settings.

2. Not every AN515-58 is the same. Ours shipped with different GPUs (3050 / 3050 Ti / 3060) and several BIOS revisions. The installer checks your firmware first and refuses to install if your BIOS doesn't properly respond. If it stops, that's it working correctly — please don't force it, and please reply with your BIOS version so I can track which ones work.

3. This isn't official Acer support. It's a user script. It makes a System Restore point first and ships with a proper uninstaller. Your risk.

Install

Step 0 — unblock the zip FIRST. This one trips everybody up. Windows marks anything downloaded from the internet as blocked, and if you extract first, every file inside stays blocked.

>

Then extract it.

Step 1 — Extract the zip somewhere simple, like your Desktop. Don't move files around inside it.

Step 2 — Right-click Install-NitroSense5.ps1 → Run with PowerShell

Step 3 — Click Yes on the admin prompt.

Step 4 — Wait ~3 minutes. It prints DONE when finished.

Step 5 — Open NitroSense from the Start Menu.

Step 6 — test your fans. Don't skip this.

Scenario → Fan → Max. Listen. Your fans should audibly ramp up within a few seconds. Then set it back to Auto.

Result What to do
Fans respond You're done. It's fully working.
Nothing happens Run Uninstall-NitroSense5.ps1 and stay on v3.1. No harm done.

Only after the fans respond should you even consider removing v3.1 — and there's no real need to remove it at all.

Troubleshooting

Temperatures look fake (GPU showing 11 °C): the installer left its safety mode on. Open PowerShell normally (not admin) and run:

Set-ItemProperty 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Acer\XSense' SimulatorMode 0

Then close and reopen NitroSense.

"Running scripts is disabled on this system": you skipped Step 0. Unblock the zip and re-extract. If it still complains, open PowerShell as Admin and run Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope Process -ExecutionPolicy Bypass, then try again.

Want it gone: right-click Uninstall-NitroSense5.ps1 → Run with PowerShell. Removes the services, app, config package and settings. Doesn't touch v3.1.

What was actually blocking it

Three separate things, none of them your hardware:

  1. A missing line in a text file. The app reads SupportedModel.txt from its own bundle and only lists 2023+ models. One registry value (skipCheck) tells it to skip that check — that's the entire fix for the "not supported" popup.
  2. An ACPI device our BIOS doesn't publish. Acer's installer binds its services to ACPI\VEN_1025&DEV_165F, which we don't have, so the services never get installed. Crucially there's no kernel driver involved — it's just service registration, which means no signing, no Secure Boot issues, nothing to patch.
  3. The config MSI installs zero services. It genuinely has an empty service table; it only creates a settings folder. The 8 services have to be registered manually. That's most of what the script does.

Meanwhile the firmware exposes AcerGamingFunction with all 25 methods — SetGamingFanTableSetGamingFanSpeedSetGamingProfile, everything. The driver package even ships Nitro AN515-58.ini containing our exact GPU's overclock table. Acer built support for this model and then dropped it from a list.

If you go poking yourself, don't launch it with --dev. It gets you past the model check so it looks like the answer — but it also repoints the UI at a developer path that doesn't exist in the shipped build, and you get a blank window that looks like a crash. That one cost me an hour.

Please report back

If it works — or if the firmware check refuses — reply with:

  • Your exact model (e.g. AN515-58-50YE)
  • Your BIOS version (msinfo32 → BIOS Version/Date)
  • Your GPU
  • Whether fan control actually moved the fans

I'll maintain a compatibility list in this post. If it works on other Nitro/Predator models, I'd like to know that too.

Fun discovery in my computer

Yeah so last Christmas, I had my first "gaming" laptop, because when we were around the store we found an Acer nitro V15 with some pretty promos, and so we paid it for 600€ (reconditioned I’m but not entirely sure). Anyway since I had it I try to put as much care on him as I can, frequently watching termals, cleaning it often because its a dust magnet, did a bit of tunning and all. But like a few weeks ago, while cleaning the fans, I noticed something pretty intriguing : it was missing a screw from the heatsink over the CPU. I mean my ryzen 7 7735HS was always a bit hotter than the RTX4050 but I wouldn’t have suspected a missing screw with the temps alone. Looking back on my first picture of the motherboard I took the day I had it, the screw wasn’t here so I guess it never was since I buyed it.
Just to say, always open your gaming computer you get with promos on Christmas, might as well get a surprise ☠️

Issues with my brand new acer nitro v15 ANV15-51.Terrible troubleshooting.

I installed all necessary drivers(from Acer Nitro website and Nvidia),and it still performs extremely bad.The laptop is on performance mode.

And this isn’t the only issue i had with it.The second day after i bought it,horizontally lines popped on my lower part of the screen, hopefully the warranty helped and i got the display replaced.

What should i do? Delete all the drivers installed today and install them again? It might my fault and i installed them wrong? i doubt so.Does anyone has a list of mandatory drivers to download?

The laptop is acer nitro v15 ANV 15-51 rtx 5050.

And yes the laptop is plugged in.

Nitro 5 shuts off when unplugged, with a charged and healthy battery

Randomly started happening, any ideas why? Battery is in good health (according to sys report), no disconnected connectors or anything. Any troubleshooting recommendations?

Nitro V15 has extremely loud fans at start up and idle

Cleaned the fans and vents of dust.

CPU and GPU temps are in the 30s to 40s celsius.

I put it in quiet mode.

Nothing I do makes the fans quiet. They are consistently loud.
