Any recommendations of a brand of high-res security camera I could point at this birdbath + where/how to mount it?

I want to film this birdbath, because it's frequented by lots of local birds and I'd like to get good footage for social media, etc. I want it pointed out towards the backyard, sky etc. instead of towards the house just in case I'm able to record any cool UFOS.

Can anyone specifically recommend me a brand/model of internet/wifi connected camera which is both A.) High res, producing good-quality footage, B.) Motion activated so I'm not just recording 24/7 generating too mcg footage and c.) Able to be mounted somehow (please explain how) on the cement patio facing the wide-open sky. Thank you

DJI Osmo Action 6 vs. GoPro Mission 1 Pro: Which one would you choose?

Looking for a waterproof action camera and am currently torn between the DJI Osmo Action 6 and the GoPro Mission 1 Pro. (Let me know if you recommend anything else)
Right now, I’m trying to figure out which of these two is truly worth investing in.
Our main hobbies include hiking, swimming Florida springs, kayaking, paddleboarding, and we are actively planning our first scuba diving and cave exploring trips.
I know both cameras require a proper dive housing to get down deep safely, but they bring completely different strengths to the table especially when dealing with the massive light drop-off going from open water into pitch-dark cave systems.
Convince me: what reasons do I have to pick the DJI Osmo Action 6 over the GoPro Mission 1 Pro, or should I go with the Mission 1 Pro instead?

Insta360 Ace Pro vs DJI Osmo Action 4

Hi guys, write this post here because the use I will make of it will be mainly for snorkeling, since now they are both on sale at €199 for the same price, which one do you think is better to take? Or is there anything better at this price? Thank you and those who have had experiences with this device and will help me.

Anybody seen or tried the new sjcam c400 pro?

Looking to get a camera for vloggging. I like the way the sjcam is built and its features with the 2 screens.

But what I've noticed is the footage is nowhere near as cinematic and crisp as the DJI lineup( obviously).. the new c400 pro however has improved image quality but I haven't seen any videos or reviews (because it's still very new). If anyone here has one pls provide footage or a review. My budget is around the $240 mark. I know it's not much to work with and I'd prefer a new device. I'm not expecting the quality to match up but I just want something decent.

DO NOT : Insta360 GO 3 Died Instantly After Swimming (Water Damage / Failed IPX8)

I bought the Insta360 GO 3 expecting it to live up to its official specs and marketing claims, specifically its IPX8 waterproof rating (up to 5 meters).

I simply took it for a light swim in a standard pool. I didn't dive deep or exceed any operational limits. Right after coming out of the water, the camera completely died and refused to turn back on ever since.

It is completely unacceptable for an action camera marketed as waterproof to fail on its very first basic water exposure. This is a clear manufacturing defect and a complete failure of quality control.

If you are planning to use this camera anywhere near water, do not waste your money. The waterproofing is unreliable, and you risk bricking your device instantly. Extremely disappointed with the product quality.

Camera for really long walks?

Hi

I go for a walk every weekend which vary from 20 to even 60 (and counting) kilometres in distance.

For now, I'd like to record my trips from start to finish with an actioncam.

I usually do not bring anything with me (except my phone, a powerbank and my ID), and each trips last for 3 to 7 hours. I am willing to carry extra batteries in case the camera runs out of charge.

Later, I'd like to make YouTube videos about my trips, but until that, quality does not matter that much.

May I get some recommendations?

Best action camera you've actually used and would buy again?

My old action cam cam is finally starting to show its age, especially with stabilization.

Mostly want it for trips, hiking, and random stuff where I don't want to worry about taking my phone.

Not looking for the most expensive one, just something that can handle being thrown in a bag and still get good footage.

What are you guys actually using? Anything you'd avoid?

Any best camera for an action cam that’s easy to use?

I’m looking for an action camera for hiking and random weekend trips, mostly for decent video while moving around. I don’t need anything super professional, but I’d like something that has good stabilization and doesn’t turn into a headache every time I use it. What’s the best camera you guys would recommend for someone who just wants to record and go?

I’ve been looking at a few options but keep seeing different opinions, so I’d rather hear from people who actually use their cameras regularly. Thanks for any suggestions.

newbie question on action cameras, switching view from front to back...

was looking at action cameras, like the DJI action 4... Just starting to check these out, and have a question. So, let;s say I have a dji action 4 on a stick... if you are trying to make a decent video and you are going to be switching the view from yourself while you are talking and then to the front for a view several times. physically turning the camera to do so, is going to make a lousy video... This has to be edited out each time? Is there a way to pause it while you turn it, and then resume ? It seems like such a common thing to do with an action camera, that you'd have to edit every video you'd make... Thanks all...

Insta360 X4 vs DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro — which would you choose for travel/adventures?

Hey everyone!

I'm trying to choose my first small action/360 camera, and I'm stuck between:

  • Insta360 X4
  • DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro

I already have a Canon 700D, which I'll continue using mainly for photography. I'm looking for a much smaller camera that I can take everywhere for vacations, travel, adventures, family memories, behind-the-scenes footage, and potentially Instagram/YouTube.

I'm also hoping that having a small camera might get me more interested in videography, since I don't really enjoy holding my DSLR for long periods.

What I care about

  • Good video quality for social media/YouTube
  • Good stabilization
  • Good low-light performance — I go out at night fairly often
  • Small and easy to carry
  • Good battery life
  • Something I can keep for many years
  • I want to actually use it, rather than have it sit around
  • I don't do a huge amount of reframing/editing, although I'm willing to learn
  • I'm not looking for the absolute best/most expensive option. I want the one that makes the most sense for my use.

I'm particularly interested in the X4 because I've always wanted a 360 camera. I also understand that both can record normal single-lens video, so I'm not only considering them for 360 footage.

Prices

The X4 and Action 5 Pro are similar pricing.

What would you choose?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have actually owned/used these cameras, particularly for travel and everyday adventures.

Would you personally spend the money on the X4? Or would you choose the Action 5 Pro instead?

Also, if you've owned both a 360 camera and a conventional action camera, which one do you actually find yourself using more?

Thanks! 🙏

Best budget action cameras for travel and outdoor videos?

After going through hundreds of threads on r/ActionCam and other outdoor communities, I put together a quick cheat sheet for anyone as lost as I was:

🏆 Best overall under $250? → DJI Osmo Action 4
🟢 Best for total beginners? → GoPro Hero (2024)
⭐️ Best premium pick? → Insta360 Ace Pro 2
📦 Best enclosed value pick? → AKASO Brave 7 LE
📸 Best ultra-compact pick? → Insta360 GO 3S

Personally going with the GoPro Hero (2024) - best value and ease of use for travel and outdoor activities from everything I've read.

I’m looking for an action camera for travel, hiking, cycling, and occasional water use. I don’t need professional-level footage or a huge editing workflow, but I want video that looks stable and good enough to share without looking like cheap dashcam footage.

Budget: Around $150–$300, including basic mounts if possible.

What I want:

  • Good stabilization for walking, biking, and handheld clips
  • Solid 4K video in daylight
  • Decent battery life and easy-to-find spare batteries
  • Waterproofing for rain and occasional swimming
  • Simple controls and an app that is not painful to use
  • Compact enough for travel

Options I keep seeing:

  • DJI Osmo Action 3 / 4
  • GoPro HERO (2024), HERO10 or HERO11 Black used/on sale
  • Insta360 GO 3S
  • AKASO Brave 7 LE / Brave 8
  • SJCAM models

I’m trying to figure out whether it is better to buy a used older GoPro or DJI, or a new budget camera like AKASO. I keep reading that the cheaper cameras can be fine in bright daylight but have weaker stabilization, audio, apps, and low-light performance.

What budget action camera has actually been worth it for you, especially for travel and casual outdoor use?

Insta360 Ace Pro 2 vs. DJI Action 6 vs. GoPro Mission 1

Looking for a waterproof action camera and am currently torn between the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, the DJI Osmo Action 6, and the GoPro Mission 1. (Let me know if you recommend anything else)
Right now, I’m heavily leaning toward the Ace Pro 2. The main reason is the footage it just has this gorgeous, cinematic color and detail that I don’t really see with the others.
Our main hobbies include hiking, swimming Florida springs, kayaking, paddleboarding, and we are actively planning some scuba diving and cave exploring trips.
I know the Ace Pro 2 has a stock waterproof depth limit of around 39ft, and I'm fine grabbing a proper dive housing to upgrade the depth. But since the other two options bring some heavy-hitting specs to the table, convince me: what reasons do I have to actually pick the Action 6 or the Mission 1 over the Ace Pro 2 or should I go with the ace pro 2?

Planning on getting The Akaso Brave 7 le

I'm a 16 yr old highschooler, and I want an action cam that's low budget (max 150-160€) to film skateboarding, scuba diving and climbing. The quality doesn't need to be professional, but I'd still like some 4k quality because Ill maybe turn the clips into ig posts. Would this camera be good or not?

ACTION 4 OR ACTION 5?

I am planning to buy dji action camera from Japan. I am confused whether to buy action 4 or action 5. I am mainly going to use it for trekking, riding motorbikes, and travelling. I heard action 4 has nice visuals compared to action 5 but 5 has long lasting battery and internal storage compared to 4. This is my first time buying an action camera so please suggest me which model should I get? These are the ones I shortlisted.

* Action 4 Standard: ¥30,250 ($190) * Action 4 Adventure: ¥46,309 ($290) * Action 5 Standard: ¥50,600 ($329)

Should I print a camera chin mount for my helmet?

I got an Osmo Action 5 Pro, now I want to use it in my HJC C10 helmet, the box had an alternative mount but it ends up looking down if I put it on the chin.

So I want to know if it's okay to 3d print a helmet chin camera mount (and which material should I use) or should I save money for an original mount.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR: Should I print a camera mount for my bike or should I buy the original one?

i love my action4... but it’s basically been sitting unused for the past six months...

I have an Action 4 and I absolutely love the image quality. I’ve shot tons of videos of my dog with it. But I’m pretty lazy, so I often forget to bring it with me, forget to start recording, and I can never be bothered to edit the footage afterward. It’s basically been sitting unused for the past six months...

How do you guys motivate yourselves to actually pick up your camera and shoot?
