African fat-tailed Gecko concerns

This is Dandelion, I got him 6 years ago. He’s been in my brothers care ever since and now I have recently taken care of him. As I’m rejoining the game of reptile keeping I just want to make sure I’m doing right by my buddy. He’s terrarium is on the small side, it’s 43cm long which sadly is all I can do as my flat is very small and already cramped. I am waiting for substrate from my local pet store as they sold out of the stuff I used to get. He still eats well, he moves frequently and he’s tail is still fatty (thought admittedly an unusual shape which the shop I bought him from attributed to the breeder who was apparently a dodgy bloke). I guess what I’m trying to ask is, does he look okay? Like a healthy gecko should? Also, as I said I can’t upgrade the terrariums size. Can I make what I have work for my adult AFT?

Body condition opinions

I have had this gal for about 6 months and she just isn’t eating as much as I would think she would. She gets offered meal worms and dubias, has access to water and calcium without d3, and has plenty of hides. She won’t eat inside her enclosure, I’m lucky to get her to eat every other week, and she only want to eat withering meal worms so if they don’t squirm she won’t eat them. I’m just making sure she’s at least a semi heathy weight. I do struggle keeping properties despite misting every other day covering her mesh top with tape. She’s super sweet and chill but I just can’t get her to eat at a normal rate.

New gecko need advice

hello Reddit, I have a new gecko. i bought him from a reptile con. the table was selling jumping spiders then one African fat tailed gecko. when I asked he said it was his friend’s gecko but she just had a baby and no longer had the time for him. the man estimated the gecko was at least 2-3 years old. I’ve had snakes before but I always thought African fat tails were adorable and I wanted to get one. so now I have Gator Tot.

now I currently have him in a 30x18x12 tank with springtail and milk back isopod colonies. I have plenty of leaf little, cork bark chunks, rocks, plants, moss, and everything. On the hot side its usually high 80’s humidity level 50%, the cool side is low 70’s with 70% humidity. (It looks wet all over in the pics cause I had just misted).

I got him on 5/9, he explored for awhile before burrowing under a cork bark hide on the cool side. He has not come out since. I know you’re supposed to leave them be for at least two weeks and I do see like his tail move periodically so I know he’s alive. I’ve even stayed up into the night and haven’t seen him come out

so now to my questions

  1. is there anything I should be doing differently husbandry wise?

  2. i don’t see much information on bonding with aft geckos, but I know people say they are similar to Leos so should I just use the same bonding information as a Leo? I know they tend to be a shyer species but I know it’s possible

  3. how long can he stay hidden and not eating before I should be worried (I know they can go a long time and currently his tail is still very fat, he could be eating the isopods but I have no way of being sure of that)

Breeding AFT geckos

Hi,

I recently thought about breeding aft geckos as there's not many for sale in the uk ever really,

I am not only considering doing this for the money, I absolutely love reptiles & caring for them, I may even keep a couple for myself! (I'm not going to be one of those breeders which throw all their animals in a rack, I think thats kind of horrible),

I am willing to put a lot of money into this to ensure proper care of the animals

I was going to get 2-3 large stacks of vivarium's (these for example)

I do own a leopard gecko and i have heard the care is very similar (except slightly higher humidity etc)

(Obviously I will do thorough research on aft's before even getting one as a pet as I want to do everything right for them.)

Is there anything that I should take into consideration (from a breeding perspective) before I go ahead with the idea?

Thankful for any replies :)
