I have a service dog question entering Canada from the US

I have a service dog and I’ve had no problem flying with him inside the United States. However, flying into Canada seems to be a little bit more complicated. On the customs website it says that I need to have a certification from a very specific organization that my dog is trained. Turns out my trainer is not certified by that organization. So if I fly with my dog as a service animal on Air Canada, but then I get to customs and I say it’s just my regular pet, will that work? Or will customs know that I just flew with a service animal? any help will be appreciated because my dog is small enough to be on my lap but too big to be under the seat and I am not checking him into the luggage compartment.

Hi, have flight from lga to toronto billy bishop iykyk. Got bumped to 45 min later flight to pearson. Now im will miss dinner due to delay and also way longer commute to the city. They claim no compensation due to less then 1 h delay to same destination. However, it isnt really. Is there any recourse?

Insane experience with Flair. Options?

I had the most miserable experience with Flair Airlines last night.

Original departure time: 9:05pm

Delayed 7 times, for a total of nearly 14 hours. In the end I never even flew. I accepted a refund after they kept me at the airport for 6 hours with no information about what was going on.

Phone lines were unusable, no agents were present at the airport. No tail number was assigned to our flight. I eventually couldn't handle the sleep deprivation so accepted the refund and went home. It was hell. I did look online and accepting a refund does not waive my rights to an APPR complaint.

They failed to communicate with us and kept sending the same canned messaged about departure constraints. What does that even mean?

I have filed an APPR ticket with Flair already, which I expect them to deny. If they do, I will be escalating to Transport Canada but that can take over 2 years for a resolution. What are my options? I also incurred some out of pocket ground transport costs and food costs because of this. I also now do not get to see my dying 103 year old grandmother because of Flair's gross negligence and failure to help us.

I am heartbroken. I will never attempt to fly with them again. 😢

Flown to Different City Due to Overbooking - Denied Transportation Expenses

I was on an Air Canada flight to Haneda, Tokyo that was overbooked. I was bumped to a later flight (about a 4-hour delay) and instead flown to Narita. For anyone not familiar with Tokyo airports, Narita is located in a completely different city and prefecture and is actually quite far from Tokyo. One must take an express train or highway bus to get to Tokyo where I live, hence the Haneda ticket purchase.

I requested only reimbursement for that additional transportation expense, incurred only because Air Canada overbooked the flight, and yet they are denying even that most basic of claims. I am not requesting expenses for the delay, or for the bags that arrived 2 days later because naturally they didn't make it on the other flight - only for the extra expenses incurred as a result of being flown to a different city for which the ticket was purchased.

Do I have no recourse here? Below are my exchanges with Air Canada on this matter:

=========

FROM AIR CANADA --> ME

Thank you for contacting us regarding the expense(s) you submitted.

After careful review, we regret that we are unable to consider reimbursing your out-of-pocket expense(s). The expense submitted was incurred at your destination.

Many factors can influence the departure and arrival times of our flights. Because people travel for many reasons, a departure delay may be a mere inconvenience for some, while for others it may result in the loss of things like travel arrangements. Regardless, the principle remains the same. Loss of enjoyment, expenses at destination or at point of embarkation are beyond compensation due by Air Canada.

If you have purchased travel insurance, we recommend contacting your insurance company to review your claim. If you experienced a flight disruption, the insurance company will accept a copy of the itinerary you received upon booking and any itinerary updates received thereafter, along with copies of any flight delay/cancellation notifications you received. Additionally, some credit cards offer insurance coverage as one of their perks, so we recommend checking with your credit card issuer to explore this option further.

We understand that this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience throughout this process.

Thank you for choosing Air Canada. We value your continued loyalty and look forward to serving you again in the future.

FROM ME --> AIR CANADA

This rationale is not applicable to this case.

You wrote, "a departure delay may be a mere inconvenience for some, while for others it may result in the loss of things like travel arrangements. Regardless, the principle remains the same. Loss of enjoyment, expenses at destination or at point of embarkation are beyond compensation due by Air Canada."

I am NOT claiming the expenses due to a departure delay, though obviously I experienced such a delay. I am claiming the expenses because Air Canada flew me into a different airport in a different city for which I purchased the ticket. As a direct result, I incurred damages in the form of additional transportation expenses in order to reach my actual destination.

FROM AIR CANADA --> ME

Thank you for your follow-up e-mail. We very much regret your dissatisfaction with our response.

Although there is little I can add to our initial explanation, we would like to assure you that your concerns have been reviewed appropriately.

While we wish to assure you that we value your patronage, we are unable to offer further consideration to this matter. Our previous correspondence has provided our explanations and the continual exchange of emails will not alter our position.

FROM ME --> AIR CANADA

Is the review team familiar with the geography of the Kanto region in Japan? My destination ticket was Haneda airport, which is located in Tokyo. Air Canada flew me in Narita Airport, which is located in a different city in a different prefecture. To reach Tokyo from Narita, one must take a high-speed train or highway bus. In this instance I had to use the train, and it is for this expense that I am seeking reimbursement.

To draw a Canadian parallel, it is as though I purchased a ticket to Toronto, but instead was flown to Montreal. Montreal is a different city in a different province, and one would be necessarily assume additional transportation expenses to reach the actual destination for which the ticket was purchased.

WestJet situation thoughts?

Thoughts about possible compensation for my situation?

I'm just wondering if I would qualify for compensation or if I would need to go the small claims direction. Here's my situation:

\- Original flight was booked months ago and was for YXE to LAS on August 2nd with a short layover in YVR for 4 of us. After hearing CUPE gave the 72 hour notice, I was able to change my flights to August 1st, YXE to LAS with a short layover in YYC.

\- Arrived at YXE and while waiting in line to check in, I received a notification that the YXE flight to YYC is being delayed 4 hours due to staff needing a 4 hour break. Therefore, we would miss our connection from YYC to LAS. Upon getting to the counter, staff stated there was nothing they could do for us except for book is on an August 2nd flight again, which would be cancelled. I asked if they would rebook us with other airlines and they said yes. I was able to show them numerous options available but they informed me they could not see it on there end and refused to help.

\- We decided to complete the flight to Calgary and figure things out while waiting. I was able to book a completely refundable flight on Air Canada for us to get from YYC to LAS on August 1st for $5,000. After landing in YYC, I called WJ and was offered zero help with any flights. I was told that they would rebook us and to watch my email. She kept asking if I wanted to cancel the flights and get a refund but I refused, telling them they need to rebook me. Obviously, they didn't and we took the Air Canada flight to LAS.

\- While in LAS for the week, I got an email from WJ about every second day saying they were unable to get us a flight to LAS and that they are working on it. So according to them, I'd still be in YYC waiting.

\- The week went by and they never did book me to LAS from YYC. But they also told me the return flight from LAS to YXE was a go as they were back to work. So basically, I would still have been in YYC if I did what they said.

\- We ended up taking to return flight from LAS to YXE at the end of our trip and this brings me to now.

I'm definitely going to be claiming both my Air Canada tickets and also the flight delay and cancellations claim.

What does my outlook look like? I have a feeling they are going to be a pain in the ass and I'll have to pursue small claims court to really get my compensation.

Thoughts?
