Recomendation on an area to explore
Hi!
I am putting together a last minute plan B (or C) due to wildfires.
This would be a saturday to saturday trip ( not including travel days) middle of september.
I am looking for one or two areas that would check these so that I can start digging in and putting a rough plan together:
- Within 5h driving from Anchorage.
- Glacier and mountain views
- Glacier colorful lakes
- Can spend a lot of time above tree line
- Logistics are simple ( easy to get permits, no need to get shuttles, no need for 4x4 vehicles or air transport, etc).
- Access to hikes, cross country options and easy scrambling. (We are also ok bringing ice axe and crampons but no intention of doing anything that requires ropes unless guided. And I dont want to fly with snowshoes but happy to rent them).
I am considering Chugach, Kenai NP and Denali NP. Any thoughts on wich ones to focus on for a very flexible mid September trip? Any area to avoid based on road closures, weather, crowds, etc?
Million thanks
