Your First Episode and Why?
I would imagine this has been done here before, but I thought it would still be interesting.
What was your first ever episode of AFE and why did you listen? Did your friend tell you about it? Was there a particular guest? Big fan of one of the GVG from somewhere else? Or maybe you just stumbled upon it.
For me, it was people you would want on your side in a fight with Kinane. Always been a huge fan of his. Kinane posted about his appearance on Twitter (Twitter was better then) and so I figured I would give it a shot. Haven't stopped listening since. That remains one of my all time favorite episodes. Almost 9 years ago at this point.
So what about you guys? What got you hooked??
Shout Outs
Can anyone share any details on the origin of the Shout Outs joke?
I've been listening for 1+ yr and am just now realizing that "syd the kid, Frankie Ocean and Hodgy Beats" are all members of Hip Hop and mixed media group Odd Future, of which I'm barely familiar.
I dont think Saint Sue Karmel is a member of Odd Future. I may be wrong.
Why and when did this become a running joke/outro for the pod?
I like that its more of just a rote bit that Ian rattles off now, like the fine print at the end of a Draft kings ad.
Comfort episodes
Do you have any comfort episodes that you go back to when you could use a pick me up?
Holy smokes, Ian is famous!
Don’t know if anybody has posted this but I saw a promo for James Corden’s World Cup post-game show. I didn’t know our boy was a world class foosball player! Or maybe it’s Paul F Tompkins.
Shirley Temple
Been having a rough time and Sean thinking that Shirley temple was a cartoon made my entire week better.
Sean defense thread
(I just want to preface this rant by disclaiming that I’m not actually upset; and I know Sean is an adult and can stand up for himself. He is cherished and loved and I recognize that, HOWEVER)
I’m (lightheartedly) frustrated them always vetoing Sean’s picks!! David takes a ball pit in the fast food draft, and it goes down as one of the greatest AFE picks of all time. Ian shoehorns Jazz into basically every draft now, including some picks, and he gets away with it (as he should) but I feel like every single one of Sean’s picks gets scrutinized unfairly. He has more unjustly overturned picks than anyone. What do you mean he can’t pick Hayley Williams? I understand the connection to pop is loose and subjective, but who cares?? Why are the guidelines so strict when he is picking, but seemingly wide open for everyone else? Let my boy cook!
End rant.
