Frisco Chamber mayoral forum turns tense over Sharia law, rhetoric and city identity

The Frisco Chamber runoff forum between Mark Hill and Rod Vilhauer became one of the sharpest exchanges of the race so far. The discussion moved far beyond traffic and development and into debates over Sharia law, campaign rhetoric, public safety and the political direction of the city.

One of the more notable moments came when Vilhauer was asked to name a city council vote from the last year that he supported and did not identify one. The night also included exchanges over bankruptcy filings, undocumented worker allegations and claims involving CAIR support.

Build More Housing Near Transit Act

If you’re unfamiliar with “urbanism,” it's how inhabitants of urban areas, such as towns and cities, interact with the built environment. Positive urbanism inherently supports public transit and mixed use zoning, with an emphasis on making it easier to do everyday errands without needing a vehicle.

As a native Dallasite, I’ve noticed that there is quite a lack of this kind of infrastructure outside of very few places, which is crazy given the population size.

This doesn't apply to just DFW, but I’m working on a campaign to get local officials involved in supporting this kind of legislation forward. One small step in that is furthering the Build More Housing Near Transit Act. August is coming up, and if you want to get more involved in local politics, this is a great starting point.

Need to rehome my cat Bast (6M) - incredibly cuddly orange tabby, amazing with kids/dogs/cats + flyer included

This is really hard for me to post, but I’m looking to find a loving new home for my cat Bast.

Bast is a 6-year-old orange tabby that I adopted from a shelter when he was about 6 months old. He was actually about to be put down, and I’ve had him ever since. He’s neutered, fully up to date on vaccines, and has been an indoor cat his entire life.

Personality-wise, Bast is honestly one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met. He’s extremely affectionate and cuddly, like “cannot not cuddle.” He basically acts like my shadow and always wants to be near people. He’s energetic, curious, vocal in a cute way, and honestly a little too smart for his own good.

He’s fantastic with kids, other cats, and dogs (he grew up around a dog). He’s also incredibly tolerant and gentle. Even when my younger brother visited as a toddler and tried to carry him around, Bast would just patiently put up with it. He has never clawed or bitten anyone.

He’s high-energy and social, but not destructive. He really thrives when he has people around him and gets a lot of companionship and attention.

The only reason I’m rehoming him is because of life circumstances. My fiancée is highly allergic to cats, we’re moving to a much smaller apartment in NYC soon, Bast does not handle travel well, and between our work schedules I can’t give him the attention he deserves anymore.

I’m located in Frisco (Stonebriar area). My priority is finding him a genuinely loving home where he’ll be cared for and spoiled the way he deserves. I’ll also be a little selective about where he goes because he means a lot to me, and I’d love to be able to check in occasionally to make sure he’s doing well.

I included a flyer with more info as well.

If you think you might be a good fit for Bast, please send me a message and I can share more details/photos or set up a meet-and-greet.

First Time Visitor

Hello,

I posted this in r/askDFW but it turns out my hotel is in Allen! I'll be in town this coming Sunday-Friday for work and am hoping to find non-tourist-trap places, events, restaurants, etc.

I'm open to anything but enjoy history, music, fitness, architecture, hockey, and lacrosse. I'd appreciate any suggestions on things to help me get to know the area, thanks!

Considering a Move from Canada to Dallas Suburbs — Best Areas for Families?

We’re a family currently living in Oakville, Ontario (Canada) and are seriously considering moving to the Dallas area in the next couple of years.

I run a tech business, have two kids (elementary/middle school age), and we’re trying to understand what areas would realistically fit our lifestyle long term.

Our priorities are:

  • Very safe family-oriented suburbs
  • Strong public schools
  • Good environment for kids activities/sports
  • Access to golf, cycling, running, triathlon-type outdoor activities
  • Warm weather compared to Ontario
  • Good Indian/international community is a plus
  • Prefer newer, cleaner, well-planned areas
  • Budget is flexible, but we still care about value

The areas that keep coming up are:

  • Frisco
  • Prosper
  • Southlake
  • Plano
  • Coppell
  • Flower Mound
  • Allen

Would love honest opinions from people actually living there:

  • Which areas feel the safest day-to-day?
  • Which suburbs have the best overall quality of life for families?
  • Are there areas locals would strongly recommend OR avoid?
  • How bad is summer heat really for outdoor life?
  • If you moved from another state/country, what surprised you most?

Also curious how Dallas suburbs compare to places like Raleigh/Cary NC for long-term family life.

One more thing we’re trying to understand is realistic income expectations for these areas.

For a family with 2 kids wanting:

  • a safe neighborhood
  • good public schools
  • a detached home
  • kids activities/sports
  • occasional travel
  • comfortable but not ultra-luxury living

what household gross income would you consider:

  • “comfortable”
  • “very comfortable”
  • “upper-end” lifestyle

in places like Frisco, Prosper, Southlake, Plano, etc.?

Appreciate any insights, especially from families with kids or people who relocated recently.

Are culture-war issues becoming the main political focus in TX-03 heading into 2026?

Keith Self’s recent messaging has focused heavily on Sharia warnings, religious liberty debates, future vehicle “kill switch” concerns, and broader cultural issues tied to events overseas.

At the same time, families across Collin County are dealing with rising insurance costs, higher grocery bills, housing affordability concerns, and economic pressure closer to home.

The article also discusses the EPIC City/The Meadow controversy, how local Muslim leaders have responded, and whether these debates reflect what voters in TX-03 most want shaping political discussion heading into 2026.

Dashcam footage from April 2026?

Hi! This is a long shot, but does anyone have any dashcam or any type of footage from 12:45-12:50pm on Saturday April 25, 2026 at the intersection of Greenville and Bethany?

We were rear ended and after filing, found out the driver‘s information/insurance info was fraudulent. Trying to gather any type of evidence at this point.

Thanks in advance!

Moving to Allen; visiting this summer. Help?

Hi everyone,

Our family is a family of 3, husband and I and a 6th grade son who loves football. We are traveling to Allen this summer to check it out and to help our son envision the move. We will be getting an Airbnb house in the area for the vacation to help him get a feel for the neighborhood.

Do you guys have any pointers how to organize our trip to really get a feel of the place? Any local parks or activities that are popular for kids his age, or football camps that are happening in the summer? I’ve been on ChatGPT all week lol but it’s hard to plan . We will be out there for two weeks and if possible would love to connect to coaches of a tackle league that is good in this neighborhood to see if we can chat with the coaches or observe practice, drop in for a private workout or something..

Essentially, we are hoping to make this vacation meaningful in a way of introducing our son to the lifestyle he would have out here. Any advice would be appreciated!!

For context, we are a mixed family I’m European, husband is Black American , the kid looks Puerto Rican : ) lol . I don’t know what Allen is politically/racially like , seems like a diverse and welcoming place on the internet, but if there is another area we should be considering , we would appreciate that insight as well.

Thanks!!
