Workflow suddenly taking longer than usual

Hi all,

I workflow that I have been using for over a year now with no issues has suddenly started to take way longer to complete than usual. Usually it would take no more than 2 mins to complete but the last run took 22hrs. I haven't made any changes to the workflow and the data itself is fine. Any ideas on what could of caused this? Memory isn't an issue (64GB)

Alteryx dev + server admin (both certs) - open to new role

Hi all, longtime lurker, first time posting here for myself. Not really sure if this is allowed here so mods feel free to nuke it, but figured it was worth a shot.

I've spent the last 5 years living in Alteryx, mostly on the platform/admin side. At my current company I was there when they still use a handful of individual licenses to now a full-scale enterprise Server practice. A couple of things I built during my tenure

  • Built an API-driven scheduler that monitors for supplier file drops and auto-triggers 500+ reconciliation workflows
  • Dozens of ETL workflows used by various business functions that used Python, Macros, APIs, Analytics Apps, etcs
  • Migrated/productionized workflows from sandbox to prod with an automated compliance checklist

Stack-wise: Alteryx Designer + Server, Snowflake, SQL, Python, dbt, Tableau/Power BI. Both Alteryx certs (Designer Core + Server Admin). U.S. citizen.

Anyway — starting to look around for something new. If your team needs an Alteryx/analytics engineer type, or you just know of something, shoot me a DM. Happy to send my resume over.

Thanks for reading.

Tableau to internal website - Claude code

Hi All,

Have a twbx on the server that updates daily automatically.

Current urgent business need is to put up an internal website that is an exact replica of the tableau dashboard.

The idea is to get away from tableau atleast for couple of projects to start off.

Currently, I use sql server or hyper extracts to update dashboards daily.

I have tried using Claude code and got a localhost website ready using csv or excel files, have never tried sql or (replacing hyper extracts).

What are the changes that I should be aware of and what would be the next steps for a seamless transition from tableau to local intranet website that updates daily in an automated way?

I own the data and sql tables that drive the current tableau dashboards, no dependent in terms of data.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Visual workflows - is there still a need?

Now that we have AI, which can summarize and explain code really well, do you think visual workflow tools (like Alteryx, KNIME, etc.) will be needed in the future for data analysts and business analysts?

Switch away from alteryx?

We are a small team of 2 super users of alteryx 1 that can do smaller simple automations and then 4-6 different people that dont build but might run different flow that was build for them.

We run everything as desktop automation. Which it seems alteryx are planning to stop supporting and push us to cloud.

We want an on premises hosted by our self setup, and when i look at it just seems python might be the best solution for us. That would mean we only have 1 super users and then 2 that can do stuff only with AI the other 4-6 people will never open a terminal.

I like the way of working with alteryx even if i can do it in Python i like to visually see the workflow and show it to people and make them able to understand what happening easily.

What would you move to if you had to migrate?

Export String Field into Multiline within individual Excel Cell

Hi, I'm putting together an Alteryx workflow. Using a corporate database, I have a field called "Previous_Companies" which is a concatenation of all the previous Business Units an associate has worked in while employed at Company A. Business Unit names are separated by a "|" within the "Previous_Companies" field, so it's a long string field. When I export this field to Excel, I want the individual Business Unit Names to be on separate lines within the same cell.

Currently have: Business_Unit_A | Business_Unit_B | Business_Unit_C

Within the same Excel Cell, I want the export to show:

Business_Unit_A

Business_Unit_B

Business_Unit_C

How do I set this up in Alteryx? I attempted to ask CoPilot, but the offered solutions don't work with the new line character (\n). The exported data just adds "\n" between the Business Unit names.

Thanks for any advanced help!

Input files into workflow from a large company’s network location

Selecting filepaths into a workflow from a network file location is proving tortuous for me. It just goes in “not responding” when I select the file and the drag and drop function is a fail.

Is there any way to get around this?
