“The American Communist Party…has been able to keep the heads of thousands of cadres on the key issues, on the principal contradiction at hand. In doing so, it has seen the peaceful co-existence of socially liberal and conservative cadres”—Carlos L. Garrido

"For that reason the term “rentier state” is coming into common use in the economic literature that deals with imperialism. The world is divided into a handful of usurer states and a vast majority of debtor states. This is the essence of imperialism and imperialist parasitism." - Lenin

Hi /r/AskLosAngeles. I’m Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Councilmember for CD4 and candidate for Los Angeles Mayor. Ask Me Anything. What do you want to see from your mayor?

Update: Thank you so much everyone for participating! There are a couple more questions Nithya really wanted to answer, and I'm hoping we'll be able to get her answers posted over the next couple of days.

-TeamNithya

I'll be answering questions starting around 2:00 pm this afternoon.
Hi r/AskLosAngeles!

I’m Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Council Member for Council District Four and candidate for Mayor.

I’m an immigrant, an urban planner by training (I earned my master’s degree at MIT), and the mother of 10-year-old twins.

I’m running for mayor because Los Angeles is in crisis- everyone can feel it. The city is unaffordable, unable to deliver basic services, and failing to provide transparency & accountability. In City Hall, there is a lack of leadership instead of the urgency and vision we need.

On council, I passed the strongest renter protections in LA’s history, lowered rent increases for over 1.5 million Angelenos, established independent redistricting, and wrote LA’s sanctuary city ordinance. In my own district, I reduced tents and encampments by 54% and built more protected bike lanes than any other council district. I’m ready to take this progress city-wide!

I want to fight for this city’s future: build more housing, address homelessness, deliver on public safety, expand Metro, and create a city that works for everyone.

And with that, Ask Me Anything! Who’s ready?

The American Communist Party unequivocally rejects the trend in Western leftism that calls itself socialist yet rejects all forms of socialism that have actually existed historically.

ACP Blockchain?

I dont know much about blockchain at all. i know the ACP blockchain is not a cryptocurrency. The blockchain is mentioned on the ACP website and haz mentions it in this video where he dispels the cryptocurrency rumour. But I still don’t think I understand what exactly the purpose of it is. The websit says it “records members who have achieved cadre status”. Couldn’t this, like, pose a major security risk? If the government has a top secret way to decipher blockchains or something. But maybe thats not at all how blockchain works and I’m too paranoid. Still, why is it useful/ important for cadre to be identified on a blockchain? Haz says it is to “prevent impersonation”. Is that really it? Because going through all the trouble of setting up a blockchain (i assume it’s a complex process) when the ACP website just links to the officially verified chapter accounts anyways seems like a lot of effort. Plus all the official acp accounts follow each other. Does the blockchain do something else? Am I missing something? Please let me know. ACP is the first communist org ive heard of anywhere that’s doing this so im very curious to understand it.
