Any stories about the Cels you guys have?

I've been collecting alot of cels and I got some stories with them, so I've started to wonder if any other folks got stories with theirs.

Do you have any stories? I got one for the 2nd image.

I found a guy online that had a big collection of cels and had been selling them for under 10 bucks, turns out he knew nothing about cels and had found them in a storage locker. Managed to get a Minky Momo off him for just 10 bucks. Similar story for the 3rd image too.

Seeking Help With Simpson Cel

Hi all,

I recently bought my first animation cel, and I’m hoping for some expert advice regarding its condition.

I purchased the cel from an eBay seller, and decided to remove it from its frame to inspect it properly. It was unfortunately kept in a cheap frame, with no matting between the printed display background, the cel, and the plexiglass. When I first opened the frame, I noticed a strong paint-like smell for a moment, though it has had no odor since then.

My main concerns are that there appears to be paper, small hairs, and dust/lint particles stuck to the paint. Additionally, the front of the cel has noticeable ripples/waves around Homer’s face. So my main questions I have, for those more experienced than myself:

  • Is this common for animation cels? And or specifically Simpson cels?
  • Do these factors (the stuck particles and ripples) affect the longevity of the cel?
  • Are these early signs of vinegar syndrome?

I have always wanted to own a Simpsons cel, especially one like this from my favorite episode, and I would love for it to last for many decades. I’m currently undecided on whether to keep it, and get it professionally framed with museum quality materials, or to return it while I still can.

Since this is my first cel, my knowledge is lacking, so any guidance or reassurance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have two animation cels that I haven't been able to identify. Would anyone happen to know what series they are from? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first cel resembles Vegeta, but I know it isn't him. I've looked through several other series and still haven't been able to identify the character.

As for the second cel, I honestly don't have any idea where it's from, but I couldn't pass up an animation cel with its original background.

If anyone recognizes either of these cels or knows what production they're from, I would greatly appreciate any information. Thanks in advance for taking a look!

I bought a collection of Pink Panther cels in London years and years ago. I am not a smoker, but I thought this cel of him was SO COOL.

$320 damaged drawing nightmare

I bought the drawing directly from the studio in the US. The first person I am talking to is the studio manager, but the final email is from the actual artist/director/producer themself.

The drawing was backed with a single piece of cardboard cut from a box which had factory grooves in it (placed inside a jiffy bag). Besides it being folded by my postman, the drawing had picked up other marks from the cardboard bending out of place in multiple locations.

I paid $320 and £56 in custom fees.

It goes without saying that I am bitterly upset with this situation. It feels very unfair and it seems they do not want to engage with me any further. The only thing I can think to do is ask for proof of postage so I can make a claim with Royal Mail who delivered it to my here in the UK.

This experience has really changed my opinion of the artist and I now don't even want the artwork anymore as it is a reminder that they values me so little. I'm not even sure I'll be able to watch their films again.

Any advice much appreciated

My Collection One month later..

A little over a month ago i stumbled upon winning a Disney auction with some drawings and cels. One month later my wallet is empty but my collection has grown!

I'm planning on framing some of these, and putting some of the rest into a portfolio in archival sleeves, what's the frequency one should pull out the cels to let them breathe? Or any tips for long term storage?

Just added this original anime cel to my collection. What do you think of this scene?

It may correspond to around the 22–23 minute mark of the movie.

Cels I received from an old high school teacher 8 years ago.

They’re cels from an adult animation studio that made 18+ materials and I didn’t know until yesterday. I just discovered this subreddit and decided to share them here as well.

edit: Sorry to those who’re concerned. My high school teacher didn’t know about these cels are from an adult animation studio when he gave them to me.

Edit 2: I made a post about if I can frame my cels and what frames would I need, but I realized that’s a dumb question and it’s better I find an expert.

Need help finding the exact DBZ scene/time stamp for this Super Saiyan Goku production cel

Hi everyone! I recently acquired in Japan (at the shop called apple symphony in nakano broadway) this beautiful original Dragon Ball Z production cel (unfortunately the douga is stuck behind and I don't want to try to remove it and risk destroying everything) featuring Super Saiyan Goku, and I am trying to track down the exact scene and time stamp where it appears on screen. If you can identify it and add screenshot that would be amazing!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you so much for your help!

Any Clues What This Is?

Hey! Found this at a vintage store in Palm Springs for $20. No idea what it’s from. I was thinking maybe the Rankin Bass Return of the King.
