Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Calling all Annapolis book dragons, fantasy lovers & sci-fi nerds

Do you spend more time adding books to your TBR than actually making progress on it? Have strong opinions about fictional characters? Find yourself desperately needing someone to discuss the latest plot twist with?

You might have found your people.

I posted here a little while ago about starting The Bookish Coven, a local group for women in their 20s, 30s and 40s around Annapolis and Anne Arundel County who love fantasy, romantasy, sci-fi, and all the wonderfully weird books in between.

We've got a small group going now, and we're planning our first in-person meetup for Thursday, October 15 in the Annapolis area!

The idea is book community first, book club second. Book recommendations, fictional character debates, questionable book boyfriends, optional group reads, and getting together with people who understand why your TBR will never actually get shorter.

Our first meetup will be a casual happy hour to meet everyone, talk books, and probably leave with even more books on our TBRs. No assigned reading or homework, but bring whatever you're currently reading if you'd like!

ICYMI: Two local newsletters and local news podcast from Eye On Annapolis

For those unaware (and who want to keep in the know), in addition to the periodic ticket giveaways here to Rams Head On Stage shows, Eye On Annapolis publishes a daily newsletter with the top local news at 7 PM every night. Periodically, we also do fun bonus episodes with some of the best acts coming to Rams Head On Stage or special events in the area —we just dropped one with Annapolis Pride ahead of the Parade and Festival this weekend!
